8 Clever Ways To Give Cash And Gift Cards For The Holidays

You don’t need to go the boring white-envelope route to give cash or gift cards during the holidays. With creativity and help from Scotch™ Brand, giving money can be as beautiful and thoughtful as any gift!

1. Give the gift of good fortune with cash-stuffed fortune cookies.

You’ll need:

Sturdy, decorative paper — like scrapbooking paper

A compass (or circle to use as a stencil)

A pencil

Scissors

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

Instructions:

1. Trace and cut a circle out of the paper.

2. Fold the circle in half (with the decorative side facing out), being careful not to crease the edge. Secure the very tops of the circle together with a tiny piece of Scotch® Double Sided Tape.

3. Insert a rolled-up bill. Using your thumb, squeeze the center of the folded edge inward, allowing the two points of the cookie to come together. When they meet, secure them with another piece of Scotch® Double Sided Tape.

4. Take it to the next level by wrapping several bills into fortune cookies and presenting all your cookies in a takeout box!

2. Slip a gift card into a festive paper cardholder:

You’ll need:
Festive card stock or scrapbooking paper

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

Scissors

Scotch® Expressions Tape, twine, stickers, etc. (optional)

Instructions:
1. Cut the paper into a 5” × 4.25″ -sized rectangle.

2. Score the sheet in three areas: 1 3/8″ from each side and 3/4″ from the bottom.

3. Make your flaps by cutting away the two bottom corners under and to the left and right of the score marks.

4. Fold the right and left flaps in and secure with Scotch® Double Sided Tape. Fold the bottom flap up over the other two and use more tape to secure it.

5. Cut a small piece out of the top of the envelope to make grabbing the card easier, and decorate it with Scotch® Expressions Tape, twine, or other festive adornments.

3. Create a tiny book of money:

You’ll need:

Festive card stock or scrapbooking paper, cut into a 6.125” x 2.75” rectangle

Scotch® Expressions Tape

String or twine

Pens

Instructions:
1. Fold your card stock in half like a book and then crease. Open the book and add your folded cash — then close.

2. Take a piece of Scotch® Expressions Tape and use it to create a book spine along the fold.

3. Use twine to “bind” the book by wrapping it around the book's spine and across the cash.

4. Write a personal message on the first page of the book or on the cover.

5. Close the book and use another piece of Scotch® Expressions Tape to hold it closed.

4. Make a money tree and attach it to a cute DIY card:

You’ll need:

Card stock or blank cards

Scotch® Expressions Tape

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

Markers or pens

Cash

Instructions:

1. Cut 8.5×11 card stock in half crosswise, and fold each in half to create two cards. (You can also buy pre-cut crafting cards.)

2. Fold a bill into a triangle “tree” — there are a lot of ways to do this, so play around to find what works for you.

3. Using Scotch® Double Sided Tape, affix the “money tree” to the middle of the card. Use a piece of Scotch® Expressions Tape to add a stump.

4. Use Scotch® Expressions Tape to create a whole forest. To do this, cut or tear a triangular piece of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to serve as the top of the tree, and stick it horizontally a few inches from the top of the card.

5. Build the tree by cutting progressively longer pieces of tape and stacking them from the top down. Feel free to experiment with tape colors and the angles at which you’re cutting the tape’s edges. Add a stump here too.

7. Write a personal message with markers!

5. Turn a tube of cash into a cute piece of candy:

You’ll need:

A plastic test tube or similarly shaped container

White wrapping paper

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

A assortment of thin ribbons

Cellophane

Twine

Instructions:

1. Insert your cash into the test tube.

2. Cut a rectangle from your wrapping paper, making sure it’s large enough to wrap the tube.

3. Use Scotch® Double Sided Tape to secure the white paper over the tube and fold in the ends. Wrap the whole tube in Scotch® Double Sided Tape so it’s completely sticky.

4. Wrap a piece of ribbon (or many pieces of ribbon) in a spiral pattern over the roll, making sure it sticks to the tape.

5. Wrap the whole roll again in cellophane and use twine to fasten the ends.

6. Upcycle a cardboard roll into a cute gift-card box:

You’ll need:

Toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls, cut in half

Scotch® Expressions Tape

Twine, ribbons, or yard — get creative!

Instructions:

1. Flatten a cardboard roll, crease edges, and unfold.

2. Letting the creases guide you, push the edges of the roll in to close the side and then repeat on the other end. Pop the gift card in while you’re doing this.

3. Decorate with Scotch® Expressions Tape and use twine to create a festive bow around the box.

7. Hang a gift card on the tree with this ornament-themed cardholder:

You’ll need:

Card stock

Scotch® Expressions Tape

A compass (or circle to use as a stencil)

A pencil

Scissors

Glue

A hole punch and twine or yarn, for hanging your ornament

Decorations like pompoms, glitter, etc.

Instructions:
1. Cover a portion of the card stock with Scotch® Expressions Tape on both sides.

2. Cut out two circles (at least 4” in diameter) from the covered card stock. Cut one of these in half (you don’t need the other half).

4. Using tiny drops of glue, attach the half circle over the bottom of the full circle to create a little pouch for your card.

5. Decorate the ornament as you like. Punch a hole in the top of the ornament and use twine to create a loop to hang it.

8. Give cash in a paper holiday wallet:

You’ll need:

One 8” x 4” rectangle of festive card stock or scrapbook paper (double-sided paper works best)

One 4” x 4” square card stock

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

Scotch® Expressions Tape

Instructions:

1. Cut rounded edges on both your rectangle and your square of paper. Cut the square down the middle on a diagonal.

2. Fold the rectangle down the middle to form a square book that resembles a folded wallet. Open the wallet and lay if flat again.

3. Using Scotch® Double Sided Tape, affix the two rectangles to the inside bottom of the wallet to create two flaps that will hold your cash in place.

4. Add the cash. Use a tiny piece of Scotch® Expressions Tape to close the wallet until your giftee opens it.
