We Tried Gift-Wrapping Tricks And Our Holidays Have Never Been Merrier

We tested out these Pinterest-worthy gift-wrapping hacks to see which ones were worth rocking around the Christmas tree.

1. Add some sparkle to a boring gift bag.

We spruced up an old gift bag we had lying around with some shiny tape. Then, we swapped out the handles with sparkly ribbon for a bag that packs some bling.

2. Wrap odd-shaped objects like a pro.

It's no secret that cylinder gifts are pretty much the worst. But we discovered that simply folding over the top in a fan pattern creates a pretty closure. Cover the seam with a ribbon, and voila! Beautiful enough to eat.

3. Personalize a plain gift tag.

We used double-sided tape to attach a photo-booth pic onto a plain sturdy gift tag to create a gift that also doubles as an ornament. This looked so cool and so professional that we were ashamed to have never thought of it before.

4. Brighten up your gifts with flowers.

We tucked the stem of some pretty flowers (which we definitely didn't just grab out of our backyard) into the ribbon to give it some eye-catching contrast.

5. Don't be afraid to ditch the red and green.

There's nothing worse than wrapping holiday gifts and running out of green and red paper. But never fear! It turns out that simply adding a bell or a couple of bows can make any gift a holiday gift.

6. When in doubt, layer.

We used all of our odd-shaped pieces to create a Frankenstein's monster of wrapping paper, and it looked pretty cool.

7. Forego wrapping paper with festive tape.

We found some candy-cane-patterned tape and used a plain shirt box. The result is every bit as pretty as a wrapped gift — and it's reusable.

We took some sturdy tags and added a single strip of sparkly tape. The only problem is the tags are too pretty to write on.

We found these in the kids section of a craft store. We painted them with gold acrylic paint and used a glue gun to attach them. Definitely more steps than usual, but the result is totally worth it.
