Consumers who have bought any of the listed products are being warned not to eat the ice cream and instead to throw it away.

Ben & Jerry's has issued a recall of four batches of its popular Cookie Dough ice cream because the tubs may have small pieces of metal inside.

The company's parent company, Unilever, issued a recall on Friday of 500ml tubs with certain batch codes, detailed here.

Consumers who have bought any of the listed products are being warned not to eat the ice cream but instead to throw it away and contact the Ben & Jerry’s customer care line on 0800 146 252 with the details written on the bottom of the tub.

Ben & Jerry's advertised the recall notice in newspapers today warning customers not to eat the products.

“The company has identified a specific production period during which Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough may have been affected and, as safety remains a top priority, Ben & Jerry’s is voluntarily recalling four batch codes of Cookie Dough 500ml," the company said.

Anyone with an affected product should "discard the product in the usual household bin", it added.
