By the age of 10, how many girls have attempted to diet?

All of these are part of the diagnostic criteria for anorexia.

All of these are diagnostic criteria for bulimia. The keyword is "regularly." If you overeat so much that you get sick once, it doesn't mean you have bulimia.

There are a ton of comorbidities (multiple diseases at one time) that often occur with anorexia. These include low iron, low sodium, low blood sugar, low white blood cell count, slow heart rate, osteoporosis (extreme bone deterioration), loss of menstrual cycle, and many more.

Anorexia can cause many other health problems besides low body weight.

The consequences of bulimia are just as bad, if not worse, than anorexia. These include, severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, severe tooth decay, gum disease, esophageal rupture, gastric rupture, infertility, irregular bowel movements, and more.

Most women with eating disorders will never receive treatment and constantly live with this disease.

The majority of women with eating disorders receive treatment.

Eating disorders are mental disorders. Because of the stigma of mental disorders, people suffering from them are less likely to seek help. Mental issues are just as important as physical issues.

All of these can be causes of eating disorders for young girls. Of course, the reasons can differ from girl to girl, but these are the most common causes.

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is a type of therapy that focuses on restructuring the patient's thinking and how they think of food. One of the thoughts introduced to the patient is, "My weight does not define my worth." By restructuring the patient's thinking, it is easier to change their behaviors involving food.

Antidepressants have shown to help girls with eating disorders through healthy weight gain and decreasing binge frequency.

Antidepressants won't help someone with an eating disorder.

They are most effective when used together in treatment. When used separately, CBT can still be effective because it is restructuring the cognition. However, antidepressants aren't recommended to be the sole treatment for eating disorders.
