This movie has basically every comedic actress in it, and features arguably the best poop scene of all time. A League of Their Own (1992) Columbia Pictures Corporation / Via mashable.com This 90's classic is about two sisters (Geena Davis and Lori Petty), who join the first female professional baseball league, and struggle to keep it alive. The cast also includes Rosie O’Donnell and Madonna, so you know it’s gonna be a good time. Ghostbusters (2016) Columbia Pictures Corporation / Via rottentomatoes.com In the spirit of all female reboots, the 2016 remake of the 1984 hit Ghostbusters is a must watch if you want to see some women kick ass. The cast includes, Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. These ladies are seriously funny, and don’t need no man. Whip It (2009) Fox Searchlight Pictures / Via amazon.com Drew Barrymore’s feature length directorial debut, Whip It, follows a teenager (played by Ellen Page) who finds herself immersed in the exciting and rebellious world of roller derby. Barrymore is featured in the cast along with Alia Shawkat, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Zoë Bell, and Eve. These ladies are scrappy, funny, and will 100% make you want to take up roller derby. Dreamgirls (2006) Paramount Pictures / Via empireonline.com The first thing you need to know is that this movie has BEYONCE! That should be enough to make you run to your TV, but if it isn’t the movie is based on a Broadway musical of the same name. The story is inspired by the Motown Record Label and the rise of the music group, The Supremes. It also features Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose. Unsurprisingly, the movie has incredible music that you will want to belt along with the stars. Mean Girls (2004) Paramount Pictures / Via cnn.com If you’ve been living on another planet and haven’t seen Mean Girls, you’re missing out on a pretty “fetch” time. The movie is written by the hilarious Tina Fey, and stars Lindsay Lohan at her absolute prime. Lohan plays Cady, a new high school student who gets swept up in her school’s most viscous clique, led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams). It’s pretty much the most quotable movie of all time, and shows everything (good and bad) that girls are capable of. The Help (2011) Touchstone Pictures / Via unaffiliatedcritic.com Grab your tissues, because even though this movie is an absolute tearjerker, it has a powerful cast of ladies, and even more powerful message. Skeeter (Emma Stone), an aspiring writer, decides to write from the point of view of African American maids who work for white families, and uncover the hardships of their lives and jobs. It has a killer cast including Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney and Bryce Dallas Howard. The movie is both heartwarming and heartbreaking, and like Bridesmaids, contains an epic poop related scene. Charlie’s Angels (2000) Columbia Pictures / Via movieweb.com If you want some hot, ass kicking ladies, look no further than Charlie’s Angels. Starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, the movie follows three female private investigators, who work for a secret millionaire, and is based on the 1976 TV series. It’s rare to see women lead action movies and comedies, and this movie does both. Annihilation (2018) Paramount Pictures / Via deadline.com This movie is recent, but totally badass. It follows Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist who signs up for a dangerous mission in a mysterious area called “The Shimmer,” where her husband died, to learn more about what killed him. The cast also includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, and Tuva Novonty. This sci-fi thriller is a total mind bender unlike anything you’ve ever seen. 9 to 5 (1980) Twentieth Century Fox / Via rollingstone.com Long before Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda were Grace & Frankie, they teamed up with Dolly Parton in the movie musical 9 to 5. The movie follows three women who work for a sexist, hypocritical boss, and find a way to overthrow him. This movie is all about the power of women, and has some really fun musical numbers. Girl’s Trip (2017) Universal Pictures / Via hbo.com This summer blockbuster is centered on a group of friends who reunite for an all girl’s trip to a music festival in New Orleans. The movie has a great cast with Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and breakout star Tiffany Haddish. You’ll laugh till you cry about the wonders of female friendship, and then probably laugh again.
