I'm Convinced That Fall Out Boy's "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" Is A Bisexual Anthem, And I'm Not Taking Any Further Questions Right Now

Happy Bi Visibility Day! Or Bisexual Day. Today is a day for all bisexuals to celebrate the fact that they definitely do exist, and for everyone to remember that bisexuality is 100% valid and beautiful 💗💜💙.

"Thnks fr th Mmrs" was released in 2007 on the band's third studio album, Infinity on High, and went double platinum in the US. The music video stars a load of chimpanzees for some reason, and a young Kim Kardashian.

Now, I am not bisexual, but I've always loved the idea this song has a lowkey bi energy to it. Let's look at the lyrics...

The line I'm particularly interested in here is "He tastes like you, only sweeter".

The lyrics for "Thnks fr th Mmrs" were penned by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, who at least at one time I remember was rumoured to be bisexual.

Pete once explained in an interview with Genius's "Verified" series that the song's lyrics were meant to be about missing out on something, but also about fame, maybe? Honestly, I'm not really sure he even knows what they're about...

Irregardless, I distinctly remember hearing the song when it came out and reading it thus – a guy has broken up with a girl who he doesn't remember fondly. He has since gotten together with a guy, and now he's bragging that the sex he has with him is better than with her.

My reasoning for this? Well...

1) The subject speaking is a guy because it's an all-male band (bit narrow-minded, sorry, but there we are).

2) He's speaking to a girl because it is/was common for Fall Out Boy – and, like, all men in music – to use female pronouns in their songs, especially those about sex and love. For instance: "She says she's no good / With words, but I'm worse / Barely stuttered out a joke of a romantic / Stuck to my tongue" (from "Dance, Dance").

3) He then uses a male pronoun – "see, he" – meaning he's moved on with a guy.

Ergo, bisexual anthem.

Anyway, that's my take. The line "He tastes like you, only sweeter" is, according to various sources, borrowed from the film Closer. This makes sense when you see the lyrics written down as the line appears in quotation marks, buttttttt when you hear it sung, you can't hear the quotation marks.

It just sounds like a guy saying it all himself!

There are also some who theorise that the lyrics represent a conversation between two people: a man who says "Thanks for the memories, even though they weren't so great", and a woman who replies "He tastes like you, only sweeter".

Whatever your interpretation is, you can't deny, it's an iconic lyric.
