UF Title IX Hearing Closing Statement

Title IX is a landmark federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in education. At the University of Florida, there are two types of Title IX Hearings—administrative and student conduct committee. In an Administrative Hearing, a student conduct & conflict resolution (SCCR) staff member serves as the hearing officer. The accused student and the alleged victim have the opportunity to present information relevant to the case and to question each witness. The SCCR staff member makes the final decision. In a Student Conduct Committee Hearing, there is a committee comprised of 5 to 7 members (undergraduate students, faculty, staff panel members). In this type of hearing, the accused student and the alleged victim have the opportunity to question each witness through a chairperson and to present relevant information. The Student Conduct Committee will make a recommendation to the Dean of Students.
