The Hungarian camerawoman who sparked international outrage after she was filmed tripping fleeing refugees – and was later fired – says she plans to sue Facebook for failing to protect her from harassment online.
In September, Petra Laszlo was caught on camera sticking her foot out to trip up refugees who were running past police in the Hungarian village of Röszke, near the border with Serbia.
The footage of her quickly went viral, and she was fired from the Hungarian broadcaster N1TV.
She later apologised for her actions, saying "something snapped" and claiming she was "scared". In December, she faces a criminal trial for "breach of peace".
Laszlo says that when her trial is over, she will file a lawsuit against Facebook for not taking action against the "threatening" groups set up against her, and that the social network played "a major role" in her current situation.
In an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia, she also criticsed Osama Abdul Mohsen, the father she tripped as he carried his son, Zaid (shown above), for "changing his testimony".
Laszlo told Izvestia: "He changed his testimony – he initially blamed the police. My husband wants to prove my innocence. For him, it is now a matter of honor."
She added that she may relocate to Russia to escape harassment.
