A Man Struck A Woman In Front Of A Huge Crowd At Friday's AFL Match

A man has been caught on camera striking a woman across the face at an AFL match.

UPDATE: WA police have charged a 24-year-old man with assault, obstructing police and disorderly behaviour in a public place. He will face a Perth court on Saturday morning.

Friday night's preliminary AFL final between Fremantle and Hawthorn has been marred by ugly crowd behaviour, including one incident in which a man struck a woman in front of a huge crowd.

The footage shows the man and woman standing face-to-face when the man strikes the woman across the cheek before the crowd intervenes to separate the two. Warning: The footage below may be confronting.

In another incident, a Fremantle fan appeared to move to strike Hawthorn's Luke Breust as he approached the boundary fence.

That fan was immediately ejected from the ground, but Western Australian police told BuzzFeed News that it was unaware of any complaints involving the man striking the woman.

The ugly incident comes in the same week prime minister Malcolm Turnbull pledged $100 million to combat family violence.

Turnbull said it's time for Australia to have a serious discussion around family violence, and attitudes towards women.

"Disrespect of women doesn't always end up in violence against women but all violence against women begins with disrespect of women," he said.
