A Mining Company Tweeted About World Earth Day And Hoo Boy

File away under "ill-advised brand tweets".

Indian-based mining giant Adani sent out a tweet for World Earth Day late on Thursday evening asking people what they'd be doing to contribute.

The answer, it seems, is mercilessly taking the piss out of Adani.

Tomorrow is #WorldEarthDay. Time to reflect and do our bit. What are some of the things you do for the environment?

The tweet was a little ironic because Adani wants to build a massive coal mine in Queensland's Galilee basin.

I started building the worlds largest coal mine not far from the worlds largest coral bleach. Oh wait. That was you. https://t.co/6phjZ7xPcL

Scientists say this mine would have a terrible effect on the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven wonders of the natural world.

Well Adani, today I murdered the Great Barrier Reef, wait, no that was you. https://t.co/AfytIjnWtJ

And it's really bad timing, because just this week researchers revealed that 93% of the reef has been affected by an unprecedented coral bleaching event.

    Everyday is #WorldEarthDay I am building a movement 2 stop @AdaniOnline from digging coal, destroying Aus #reef #indigenousculture #climate

So as soon as the tweet was sent....

.@AdaniOnline I think this one might backfire on you lololololol

    People went in.

.@AdaniOnline Get out of my country. Don't believe our govt, they're liars Australians will NOT let you destroy our #GreatBarrierReef

@AdaniOnline First thing I like to do is leave the coal in the ground so we don't all cook. What about you?

    Everyday is #WorldEarthDay I am building a movement 2 stop @AdaniOnline from digging coal, destroying Aus #reef #indigenousculture #climate

And over on Facebook it was a similar situation.

A few Greens politicians got in on the act.

We are fighting the 28 thousand hectare mine you plan to build, consented to by the Qld Labor government. https://t.co/vgevzHaMmS

Let's see. I oppose the Adani Carmichael coal mine project, for starters. How about you? https://t.co/9DU8laIlod

This is your daily reminder: Never tweet.

    @AdaniOnline i don't dig up coal. #environmentalvandals

@AdaniOnline Blocking the carmichael mine is the best thing we can do to stop you cooking the planet this #WorldEarthDay

We're going to stop you from building one of the world's biggest coal mines next to the Great Barrier Reef https://t.co/pZ6cc3RJok

    Happy World Earth Day!
