Growing Up In The 90's: Wyoming Valley Edition

As a child of the '90s, my childhood was sweet and straightforward between summers at the local pool and watching Saturday cartoons. However, a few of those memories are no longer around and have been replaced by gyms and other businesses. Some are still around and thriving in the 21st century. The following are places or things that were prominent to those who lived in the Wyoming Valley or better known as Northeastern Pennsylvania.

    Roller King

Located in Kingston, PA was the local rolling rink. Growing up Roller King was the hot spot for birthday parties and other events. Roller King wasn't just a place for parties it was also a place for the youth of the valley to hang.

    Field Day!

In elementary school field day was one of the best days ever. I mean come on getting out of school for the day to play games at Spartan Stadium against your classmates. What could be the perfect childhood memory? I can remember in the fourth grade my elementary school got a new headteacher and during his first year, he brought a DJ to finish the day.

    4th of July!

    House Phones

    Church Bazars!

Potato pancakes, games, and bingo. That is how I will always remember church bazaars as a kid. Now my old church doesn't do their summer bazaar.

    Pokemon vs. Digimon

    N'sync vs. Backstreet Boys

    Cartoons and kid shows

90's cartoon and kid shows were in a league of their own ( no reference to the movie). I remember Saturday morning cartoons such as Recess and wanting to wake up early on Saturday to watch them. Some of my other favourite shows happened to be "Are You Afraid of the Dark" "Salute to Your Shorts", "As Told By Ginger", "Rugrats", "Recess"; the list is endless, and I am so glad these shows were part of my childhood. Also "Power Rangers", the red ranger was always my favourite especially when Tommy got upgraded to the leader.
