"Do You Want To Be A Sardine?": I Don't Know Whether To Laugh Or Cry At This Dad's Brutal (But Hysterical) Response To His Daughter's Text Message

    "When I cremate you, I will throw a can of sardines in with your ashes."

    Let's be honest: parents can be brutal when it comes to giving "loving" advice.

    While their intentions usually come from a pure place, a parent's advice might come off as a scold or a full-blown threat with a side order of catastrophizing (aka when someone assumes the worst will happen), especially if said child didn't listen to them in the first place (you know, according to the parent).

    And if you need an exact example of what I'm talking about, look no further than this tweet from Chandini (otherwise known as @chxndii). She texted her dad telling him that she was anemic β€” and she says he responded like this:

    all i did was tell my dad i’m anaemic 😭😭

    @chxndii

    According to the text message, after Chandini told her dad that she was anemic, he sent her six text messages in a row about how she didn't listen to him when it came to eating certain foods. He then said that when she's dead, he will throw a "can of sardines" in with her ashes and she "will reincarnate into a sardine" if she continues to not listen to him.

    And while she told him to "relax" along with crying face emojis, dad brought more ammo and sent four more messages:

    @chxndii

    Dad explained how she is the same as her brother and how she and him will be "dead in their next life" and become "fish friends" and when that happens, he will "become a fisherman and cook the both of them."

    After Chandini posted this text exchange on Twitter, more than 600,000 people liked it.

    And even though some people expressed concerns about how her father was delivering this message, Chandini reassured everyone that it was coming from a place of love.

    bro ppl need to stop dming me about this my dads guyanese that’s how we speak to eachother, it’s all love 😭😭😭

    @chxndii

    People also posted their own funny "threat" conversations they've had with their parents or other family members on the same thread.

    For instance, this person's dad said they will "die alone" after giving them a medical update:

    Also, this person's dad offered to run over their child themselves if they continue to not wear a helmet. (You know, with love.):

    @chxndii same!!! the threats are funny and scary at the same time 😭

    Don't even get this dad started on his child dyeing their hair:

    @chxndii my dad will see one hair in the shower and be like "keep dying your fuckin hair girls! go ahead and be bald by 30, i don't care. i still have MY hair! and when you all finally go bald we're going to go on vacation, yeah see how you like a bald burnt head, you won't."

    This person's sister went from zero to sixty when she found out her sister wasn't eating enough:

    @chxndii Girl I have epilepsy triggered by low blood sugar mostly. If My sister comes home and I haven’t eaten, she’s like β€œso you WANT to die today!?” And I be laughing but she is dead serious. I get it but it’s funny lol

    This dad brought the heat by telling his child they need more sunlight in their lives:

    Lol I have a genetic connective tissue disorder and my dad tells me I'm sick cuz I don't get sunlight https://t.co/7dgbHnwmME

    Dads aren't the only ones. This mom provided unsolicited recipes to her child:

    my mom sending me recipes every time I tell her what I had for lunch https://t.co/9pbMwy0KXb

    And finally, this dad also asked the question all parents want to know when their child doesn't listen to them about their health:

    @yoonprnts @chxndii I'm Brazilian and my dad says the same "obviously you're gonna be dizzy, you don't wat carrots, spinach, just take junk food, don't eat anything that's healthy! you wanna die, crazy girl?" He says it dead serious, but I know he's only taking care of me β™‘
