The 7 Sins Of Vacation

At one point or another, we are all guilty of at least one of these 7 deadly vacation sins....

1. Packing the night before

"What's the big deal? I only need a couple outfits and some sunscreen, I'll do it tomorrow" .. I'm so guilty of this, and I regret it every time. I promise you, you WILL forget something.

2. Staring at a screen instead of a view

Of course, take pictures to capture the stunning Amalfi Coast sunset. But if you are re-taking every picture thinking “this angle won’t get any likes” or you are too busy striking the perfect pose, you will miss out on the breathtaking, transient moment before you. Enjoy it will it lasts.

3. Eating at American chains abroad

Probably one of the deadliest of the vacation sins. You are immersed in a mosaic of food and culture while abroad, there are so many tastes yet to be discovered. Resist every urge to walk into that Starbucks in Athens or the McDonald's in the Piazza di Spagna !

4. Traveling around holidays

Sometimes it's hard to avoid this with work schedules, but if you can, avoid traveling during really busy seasons. You’ll be too busy pushing through guided tours instead of admiring your surroundings, and everywhere you go you have a 99% chance of getting elbowed.

5. Constantly obsessing over social media

"What! Kyle got back with his ex??" or "Everyone went out without me! I need to post a picture proving I'm having fun ASAP!" Now is your chance to break the cycle of obsessing over social media. You plenty of time to obsess over what’s going at home when you return. Sit back, relax, and live in your moment instead of living in someone else's, because you paid too much not to. In other words, don't end up like this episode of Black Mirror

6. Comparing everything to your life back home

"WHAT! I have to wait to use hot water!? " And "what the hell is that guy staring at! Doesn’t he know its rude to stare?!" Newsflash-— hot water isn't always on demand, and what we might think is rude is totally normal abroad. Traveling is about getting out of your comfort zone, and that includes sacrificing some comfy amenities and having to adapt to foreign social norms. Stay open minded and go with the flow while abroad, or your vacation can go sour very quickly!

7. Secluding yourself to the hotel/resort you're staying at

Drop the all inclusive wristband for a day and go out to EXPLORE! Take a break from the hotel poolside and go scout a secluded beach, be bold enough to go to that nightclub down the street instead of hanging out at the hotel bar. Lastly, go meet some locals, because the best thing you can do while on vacation, is to live like one.
