The 15 Best Movies To Stream For Hanukkah

Although there aren't tons of Hanukkah movies out there, we've rounded up some of our favorites that each showcase traditions and the spirit of the holiday in their own way.

Based on a true story, this movie follows Larmont Carr, a basketball player who gets sidelined due to an injury, as he becomes the head coach of a yeshiva's basketball team in Philadelphia.

2. Eight Crazy Nights

Don't be fooled by the animations, this isn't a kids movie. Adam Sandler, who was inspired by one of his own lyrics in "The Hanukkah Song" to write this movie, plays the voice of an alcoholic criminal who needs to be reminded of the Miracle of Hanukkah to make amends for what he did wrong. It's an iconic movie that's definitely worth watching.

3. The Night Before

On Christmas Eve, a group of childhood friends, would spend the night getting wild. However, now that they are older, the tradition begins to change. Regardless, they set out to find the biggest Christmas party ever, the Nutcracker ball. During the movie Isaac, as played by Seth Rogan, brings lots of Jewish humor to this already funny holiday movie.

4. Lights: The Miracle Of Chanukah

Told through animation, this movie showcases the story of Hanukkah and how the holiday came to be. Narrated by Judd Hirsch and featuring Leonard Nimoy's vocal stylings, this is a classic for kids and families alike.

5. The Hebrew Hammer

Comedy Central

The Hebrew Hammer, an orthodox jew, goes on a mission to save Hanukkah from Santa's evil son, Damian, who wants to destroy it and Kwanzaa.

6. Mistletoe And Menorahs

In this Lifetime Movie, a toy company executive, Christy, must learn everything there is to know about Hanukkah in order to land a big account. To do this, she enlists the help of her co-worker, Jonathan, who happens to need help turning his apartment into a Christmas wonderland to impress his girlfriend's father. Even though they originally butt heads, they realize they need one another to accomplish their goals and, as they spend more time together, a romance begins.

7. All I Want Is Christmas

Ira J. Finkelstein, is a Jewish boy obsessed with Christmas. On his way to Florida, he swaps airline tickets with another boy on his way to Christmastown in the airport. You'll love this adorable tale that's filled with lots of humor.

8. Little Fockers

Universal Studios

The sequel to Meet The Parents and Meet the Fockers follows Greg Focker and his father-in-law, Jack. After ten years of marriage, Greg feels like he has finally earned trust from Jack. However, Jack suspects that something is going on with Greg due to him working a second job with a drug company. At the family holiday gathering, Greg must find a way to prove to Jack, once and for all, that he is worthy of being the next family patriarch.

9. Hitched For The Holidays

In order to fulfill his grandmother's dying wish, a bachelor goes online to find a partner. It's there that he meets a single Jewish New Yorker trying to appease her family by appearing to be coupled up. Together, they agree to pretend they're together to get through Christmas and Hanukkah. Spoiler Alert: what follows is a surprising romance between the two.

10. Double Holiday

In this Hallmark Channel movie, Rebecca, gets a promotion opportunity that changes her Hanukkah plans. The company CEO asks her and her main co-worker competition, Chris, to work together at planning the office Christmas party. Forced to work together, Chris learns more about Rebecca's Hanukkah traditions and Rebecca begins to see him in a new light. What ensues is everything you know and love from Hallmark movies.

11. Miracle Lights: The Chanukah Story

Miracle Lights was originally an animated short for television made in 1984. In it, Benny is told the story of Hanukkah by his Zaidy, grandfather, in this adorable animated film.

12. Switchmas

A remake of All I Want Is Christmas follows two young boys as they switch places in the airport to experience different holidays.

13. Holiday Date

Hallmark Channel

Similar to Hitched For The Holidays, this Hallmark movie follows Joel as he pretends to be Brooke's boyfriend for her family Christmas. Since Joel is Jewish, the family incorporates Hanukkah into their celebrations.

14. The Holiday

While this isn't a Hanukkah movie, per se, it has representations of Hanukkah with the Jewish neighbors and the Hanukkah party that one of the women stops by. The movie follows two women who decide to swap houses for the holidays. Soon enough, both women met handsome guys and fall in love. Although this movie is mostly about Christmas, it was fun to see Hanukkah represented too.

15. An American Tail

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

In this animated film, a young Russian-Jewish mouse, Fievel, flees persecution by the cats. As the movie begins, Fievel and his family are celebrating Hanukkah and his father is teaching him all about the great United States. America, as his father tells him, is supposed to be a place where the cats can't attack the mice. Although there are cats everywhere in America, Fievel still perseveres. It's an important analogy of the realities of anti-Jewish discrimination as it's told through a children's movie.
