Parents Are Sharing The Baby Items They Regretted Spending Money On And As A New Parent, I'm Taking Notes

"The only logical conclusion you can come to is to not buy much at all before actually needing it, because with almost any baby item, you might find yourself in a situation where it is utterly useless and you'll wish you hadn't spent any money on it."

There are so many baby things to buy, so that as a new mom myself, I was overwhelmed. What will I actually use?

I anxiously strolled through the vastness of the internet, trying to figure out what things will help me in this new journey of motherhood and which ones I should avoid.

So when the Reddit user Jumpy_Neighborhood10 asked "What’s a baby item you got as a new mom and regret it?", the r/Mommit community didn't disappoint. The responses vary from hilarious to frustrating, where some things are still sitting in the garage, while others are acting as expensive hangers. Here is what the new parents had to say and it gave me a lot to think about:

    1. "Wipes warmer. We had a winter baby so I thought that would be nice, but it was too big to fit in our changing station so we ended up not really using it and baby was fine without."- stellar_angel

    2. "Mittens. Yeeeeah. We have a whole basket of them that they wore twice. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Just get the sleepers with the fold over mittens. So much easier." - outlaw-chaos

    3. "Pacifiers. My daughter never took one. We bought like 12 different kinds to try." - LessMention9

    4. "The diaper genie. I hated that thing. Putting new bags in and taking them out was such a pain. Also, the bags are expensive. I ended up switching to a regular trash can with a lid. I think it contained the smell just as well." -TemperatureDizzy3257

    5. "MamaRoo. Does anyone want ours? It is always in the way." - indissippiana

    6. "For me, it was a Lovevery subscription. The toys are great, but my kids will literally play with anything. I watched a lot of YouTube when I was pregnant and truly believed it would help my kids be smarter 😂."- Jumpy_Neighborhood10

    7. "Two bottles of baby oil. My son is almost 4 and I have used 1/4 of one bottle." - OrdinaryCheese

    8. "Swaddles. Of all kind. And shape. 😂 Again, my son HATED THEM and I was convinced he'd sleep longer if we just kept trying different ones. We bought about five different brands before I gave up. It didn't help him to be swaddled or not, and I was so stressed about it when I should have just gotten fleece sleepers and called it a day."- noone_987_bye

    9. "Also, like 90% of the cute clothes I bought early on before I realized how annoying it is trying to put them on your child and how impractical they were. Now, I refuse to buy anything with more than three buttons and I let relatives buy anything ‘nice’ looking with multiple pieces!"- Kinuika

    10. And finally..."The Boppy! I have a very short torso, so it was just really uncomfortable and unnecessary for me."- charawarma
