She is free-spirited, caring, and independent. When Maria gets a cause, she’ll lobby for it, even if it means telling Captain von Trapp the polite version of, “no, YOU’RE wrong.” Luckily for him, Maria gives extremely good advice, and when the Captain actually starts listening to it, he finds himself much happier with both his life and his relationship with his children. Overall she is a sweetheart!

She is sweet and passionate. Liesl is the ideal older sister who helps her siblings from one governess to another. She is a strong person who is willing to adapt to whatever the situation calls for.

Gretl is shy which we find out when all the children meet Maria as her father has to introduce her. She’s young, naive and innocent and warms to Maria straight away.

Brigitta is somewhat independent and enjoys reading as we see when she strolls in late reading a book when we first meet her. She is also very honest and not afraid of speaking her mind as we can see when she tells Maria, shortly after meeting her, that, ‘I think your dress is the ugliest one I ever saw’ 
She is sweeter than she seems.
