6 Alternative Ways To Celebrate Valentines Day In Glasgow

Whether you're into Valentines day or not, the chances are that your significant other will be disappointed if the day goes uncelebrated (even if they're not even into it themselves). The day only happens once a year, but this doesn't prevent the difficulty of choosing an original Valentines Day date. The standard box of chocolates and candlelit table for two has become a tad cliche and should probably be avoided. The following ideas offer unorthodox date ideas which could provide you with a day to remember (in a good way).

1. Baltic Ice Bar Glasgow, Intu Braehead

A twist on the traditional “going for a drink”. The ‘cool’ and intimate bar offers an excitingly different experience in comparison to generic bars. Drink form glasses made of ice and enjoy the views of Braehead’s indoor snow slopes - watching people attempt to ski while chilling (literally) with a drink. Prices start from £5, which includes a 45 minute session, a drink of your choice including cocktails, coors or shots and a cape for heat as well as novelty.

2. Air Space, East Kilbride

Have your valentine jumping for joy when they see your wall-running, free-style jumping and sports skills all whilst bouncing about a sea of trampolines. Physical contact during the competitive sports will be necessary, allowing you to sweep them off of their feet… literally. A 60 minute session will cost a measly £10.95. Cheapest date ever.

3. Glamping at Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond offers picturesque views that would set the scene for any romantic moment (and Instagram post). Sleep in comfort in an intimate wooden pod, and enjoy a scenic romantic break for two without the drawbacks of sleeping rough in a tent. Amenities such as hot tubs, saunas and zorbing are available to book nearby.

4. 3 course meal and movie at Blythswood Square Hotel

A twist on the cliched dinner/cinema date. This package offers you a five star experience in the Blythswood restaurant. After the meal you will be invited down to the hotels very own intimate cinema room, where you will sink into one of 40 (each differently designed) Harris Tweed chairs and watch “Hitch” the rom-com. This date idea is not too try-hard but is a big improvement on a Nandos followed by the Odeon. Package costs £60 per couple.

5. Go Ape, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

Release your inner Tarzan and Lara Croft as you fly 46 metres above ground level on two of the UK’s biggest zip wires. Experience tree top adventures, adventure trails and forest segways.

Go Ape are running a promotion between 13th-28th February 2017, offering 20% off any mid-week bookings (Including Valentines day, as it falls on a Tuesday). Standard prices start at around £32 per session.

6. Visit Saint Valentine himself at Blessed John Duns Scottus

Ever heard of Glasgow being referred to as the City of Love? na, me neither. But it is apparently so, and the reason being that Saint Valentine's remains are kept in a church in the Gorbals. During the week of Valentines day the box is decorated with roses and special services take place to commemorate love. Shock your valentine this year and take them to the Gorbals.
