Fun Fact: Grizzly bears like to eat moths! "Although grizzly bears eat a variety of different insects, moths are available to them in large numbers. Grizzly bears have been seen moving through boulder fields and turning over heavy rocks to feed on masses of army cutworm moths. A grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park was seen to have consumed over 40,000 moths in one day. However, eating this many in a day is uncommon." (Nature Conservancy Canada)

Fun Fact: Black bears are great swimmers! "Black bears are good swimmers, and will readily enter water in search of fish. Black bear cubs take to the water easily and quickly. One of our favourite black bear facts is that one adult is believed to have swum nine miles along the Gulf of Mexico." (Discover Wildlife)

Fun Fact: Polar bears don't actually have white fur! "A polar bear's coat is so well camouflaged in Arctic environments that it can sometimes pass as a snow drift. Interestingly, the polar bear's coat has no white pigment; in fact, a polar bear's skin is black and its hairs are hollow." (World Wildlife Fund)

Fun Fact: Pandas poop a lot! "Pandas can poop as much as 28 kilos/day. In the past the undigested bamboo pieces in the poop were made into picture frames and bookmarks — no, apparently they did not smell! Panda's poop points in their direction of travel, so they can be easily tracked in the wild. Unfortunately, historically this led to them being more endangered, but now it aids researchers." Fun Fact: Sun bears have very interesting markings! "Their name comes from the pale horseshoe shape on their chests, which is said to resemble the setting or rising sun. No two markings are the same." (BSBCC)

Fun Fact: Asiatic black bears are good at walking on two legs! "Asiatic black bear can walk both on two and four legs. Unlike many other bears, it can easily travel distance of 1/4 of a mile on two legs. Asiatic black bear uses upright posture to intimidate both its competitors and predators." (Soft Schools)

Fun Fact: Sloth bears can fight tigers! "Sloth Bears evolved with tigers, and since they cannot outrun tigers and cannot climb trees fast enough to escape tigers, they have evolved an aggressive behavior to fight tigers off. While tigers can still have upper hand over sloth bears, their aggressive behavior sometimes has tigers thinking that they just aren’t worth all the trouble. Thus, the tiger leaves them alone to carry on with its day." (Wildlife SOS)

Fun Fact: Spectacled bears are the only South American bear! "South America’s only bear species, the Spectacled bear is the last of the “short-faced” bear subfamily. Their name comes from their distinctive light colored fur on their face, which can give the impression the bears are wearing glasses." (See The Wild)
