6 Awesome Spa Hacks You’ll Wish You Knew About Earlier

Regular cleaning and maintenance of your spa is critical to the health and safety of users, as well as the longevity of the spa.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of your spa is critical to the health and safety of users, as well as the longevity of the spa. In addition to regular maintenance, there are some very useful hacks that you will want to know. These 5 awesome spa hacks will allow for uninterrupted use of the spa and are very useful.

Hack #1: Keep a Spare Filter Cartridge on Hand.

Spa filter cartridges need regular cleaning. Keeping a spare cartridge on hand will eliminate downtime of the spa, and cartridges that are completely dry when installed will provide better filtration. When the current filter cartridge requires cleaning, simply replace it with the spare (dry) softub spa filter cartridge and you won’t have to wait to use the spa. Remove the dirty filter cartridge and clean it thoroughly by soaking it overnight in 5-gallon bucket of cleaning solution. After soaking, rinse the cartridge and allow it to dry completely. You now have a spare dry filter cartridge for the next cleaning session. While cleaning, check if your old filter cartridge is reusable or not. If your old filter cartridge is showing wear or is torn, or is simply not working as well as it used to, it may be time to purchase a spa filter cartridge replacement. Filbur spa filter replacement cartridges are an excellent choice and can be purchased on our website.

Hack #2: Wait at least 20 Minutes after Adding Chemicals to the Water to put the Cover Back On.

Spa covers and pillows must be removed before adding chemicals to the spa water. Corrosive gases released by the chemicals can damage the softer vinyl and plastic components, which is exactly what the cover and pillows are made of. It’s advisable to keep the cover off for at least 20 minutes after you add chemicals to your spa water. If the underside of the spa cover shows a darker and lighter shade, this is a sign that the cover is being put back on too soon after adding chemicals and the cover is being affected by corrosive gas.

    Hack #3: Lubricate Valve O-rings.

The diverter valves / air control valves can become more difficult to turn over time. To avoid this from happening, carefully disassemble the valve internals and apply lubricator on the O-Rings and the moving surfaces of the valve. This will restore the free movement of the valves to like-new condition. Be sure to use a waterproof product that can tolerate hot water and chemicals without breakdown or dilution.

Hack #4: Check Ozonator / UV function yearly.

Perform a yearly check on whether your ozonator is functioning properly or not. Proper functionality of the Ozonator means less chemicals in your spa. An ozone test kit is an easy way to text functionality. UV systems may simply need a quick bulb replacement.

Hack #5: Close Air Control Valves when the Spa is Not in Use.

Air control valves mix air with water and create more powerful jet streams. Since air valves can allow cooler air into the water, this increases the time needed to heat the tub. By closing the air control valves, heating time is reduced and can save you money in energy cost.

Hack #6: Control Overheating of the Water with Pool Noodles.

Your spa is insulated on all sides and is usually covered. This can lead to overheating of the water when the outside temperatures rise in the summer. To prevent this from happening, cut two 12” pieces from a pool noodle and use them to prop the spa cover-up on both sides. This allows the spa to vent and keep the water at an acceptable temperature.

These hacks can be very helpful for any spa owner, and should allow for both easy maintenance and a wonderful spa experience all year long.
