An intimacy coordinator was present on the set of Normal People when sex scenes were being filmed. The job of an intimacy coordinator is to create a safe environment for the actors; to insure the scenes conform to contractual agreements, and to ensure that there is consent from the actors. Like the Normal People characters, Sally Rooney attended Trinity College in Dublin where she studied English. Rooney was elected a Trinity Scholar, the prestigious undergraduate award shared by her two lead characters, Connell and Marianne. The Normal People author started a master's degree in politics at Trinity but completed a degree in American literature.
