    Shut Out

A little humility goes a long, long way.

However, I heard a statement at one of these meeting that troubled me deeply.

Please forgive me for the long-worded post. This is a matter very close to my heart.

Her words sat with me for a long time and I wondered if I should share them with anyone.. Again, I chose to keep it to myself because the words of a few is not the sum total of the All. So I decided to walk the neighborhood to see just how bad things allegedly were concerning the homeless.

The comment went something like this:

"We need to speak to Bronx Works about the homeless people hanging around the park... They need to control their people.. (Really?!) I don't like them in the park around my children..." A few chimed in, but it was her mouth that stood out.

Being a newbie to the community, I kept my mouth shut and just listened to this person spew their foolish talk..

I will say this, if the LORD had allowed me to say what I really wanted to say, I would have told her no one was beneath her and the plans to improve 'your' community cannot proceed and WILL NOT succeed if the needs of these individuals are not included. Period.

It was a sad day to witness arrogance and ignorance become bed fellows.

As I walked around that Monday morning, I could not see what she saw. I didn't see a 'threat' All I saw were souls that eventually ran out of places to stay and only the street would have them.

I want to write more, but I want you to actually read this and get where I'm coming from. So, I will end with this:

NO ONE CHOOSES TO BE HOMELESS.

    AND

    NO ONE IS EXEMPTED!

Many of us are a sickness, a paycheck, or a divorce away from being right where they are.

Don't believe me? How many more natural disasters after Sandy can your home withstand? May God help you if you receive the wrong kind blow to your head! What will happen to you if your family and friends decide not to take you in? Where will you go?

    Still don't believe?

    Take this with you..

In the immortal words of Yul Brynner, the bootleg pharaoh in Charlton Heston's Ten Commandments, "So let it be written; so let it be done."

Remember what happened to him? His words wrote a check his ass could not cash.

If you can't help, don't be a hindrance. The cost is too high.

    CHEERS!
