10 TV Couples That Deserved Better

Just a few couples who were betrayed by the writers of their TV shows. Keep in mind these are just the shows I've seen and my personal opinions. Also, SPOILERS INCLUDED - In no particular order.

1. Samuel/Nano & Marina - Elite

On the scale of tragic relationship endings you can't really beat someone getting murdered. Although Nano and Marina were the supposed meant-to-be couple, Samu had a love for her that was on another level and went to extremes to avenge her death; and that is why he's included in this lowkey problematic, love triangle moment. This love story ending is especially sad because not only was she killed by one of her classmates (and her brother's best friend, who basically got away with it), but she was pregnant! With Nano's baby! Now they might not have been together as a couple, but Marina's death was also the ending of a great friendship between her and Samu - he was heartbroken over her and Nano together but accepted it in the end and they still shared love for one another. I could just make this whole list about these three but that just about sums it up. I will say that Polo's death was one slightly good thing that came from this dramatic situation.

2. Maggie & Glenn - The Walking Dead

Majority of the couples on TWD end up being torn apart, usually by death; but this was the most equally heartbreaking and shocking death for the fans as well as the characters. Not only was Maggie pregnant but Glenn's death was particularly violent and gory as opposed to a peaceful death in his sleep or even turning like many other characters. The fact that Maggie and Sasha had to witness the cruel murder of both their men and all they could really do was let out some defeated screams made this all the more gut wrenching. The writers of the show then had the audacity to try and redeem Negan and make him a good guy. Glenn was the best hero on the show and there were way too many people on the 'deserve-to-die list' before him. These two were by far the couple that had the worst ending on TWD but fortunately Maggie still has their son, Hershel, named after her late father.

3. Freddie & Effy - Skins

In my opinion, Freddie's death was by far the saddest and hardest death to watch on Skins, only slightly ahead of Chris'. It also seemed like the writer's only did it to add interest into his storyline; considering the only drama and trouble he got in was because of the people around him, but he was pretty drama free himself. These two had been through way too much for just a pair of teenagers. I also thought the psychiatrist's crazy streak with Effy came out of nowhere, I knew he was creepy but never thought he'd murder anyone. These two already had a rocky start with Effy's mental health issues but Freddie was always there for her (eg. the bath scene *swoon*). And of course, in good old Skins fashion we have an open ending and never get to see anyone's reaction to Freddie's death, if his body is found or if Cook actually killed Dr Foster. Overall, these teens were a good pair that didn't deserve to be broken up by betrayal, mental illness and eventually, death. (PS. i ship both freffy & ceffy, sue me.)

4. Grace & Tommy - Peaky Blinders

Grace may have been the main reason their relationship was a mess at the start but Tommy was definitely partly to blame for her death because of his involvement in the crime world, that bullet was meant for him. From Grace being a cop to Tommy being the leader of a notorious gang, they weren't exactly a match made in heaven from the start. Grace also got killed so early on, in the third season, after only a few episodes of really being together. Not to mention they have a son, Charlie, who now has to grow up without his mother. Her death is just one more traumatising event added to Tommy's life and was one of the most shocking moments of the show, short and simple, they didn't deserve what they got. Also, Tommy doesn't deserve Lizzie at all, that's it.

5. Enzo & Bonnie - The Vampire Diaries

One of the most underrated couples from this show who were arguably better than Delena *gasp.* Just like couple number one, this pairing were torn apart by death when Stefan (with no humanity) literally tears Enzo's heart out of his chest from behind. Although the beginning of Bonnie and Enzo's relationship was a slight surprise for fans, it wasn't long until they became one of the most loved couples, which is why his death was one of the most heartbreaking moments in TVD. So close to the end, the last season, they were seperated, but hopefully Bonnie and afterlife Enzo can find a way to get back to each other. "They were so in love and one of the most unproblematic couples on the show. Killing Enzo off during the final season was for unnecessary shock value and I’m still not over it."

6. Francisco/Carlos & Lidia/Alba - Cable Girls

Honestly, I ship both of these amazing couples so I included both. Lidia and Carlos may have been married, but Francisco of course contributes to the iconic love triangle that we know and (some of us) love. One could argue that Lidia (or Alba) is supposed to be with Francisco because of their history and spark together; which was reignited when she came to the telephone company and they reunited after a decade apart. Francisco would also clearly do anything for her considering the amount of times he helped her even when it resulted in him being heartbroken (he even got shot for her). Francisco and Lidia may have a happy ending but the beginning of their relationship was a doozy - from being seperated, to the love triangle and just bad timing etc. Now for Carlos and Lidia, who had nothing but trouble from the beginning of their relationship right until his death, from her true identity, to Eva going missing (because of Carlos' mother!) and of course hers and Francisco's unresolved love for one another; but all this ended tragically when our beloved bad boy was killed. Carlos would also do anything for his wife even after losing their daughter, betrayal and death; and right from the start they had a connection and chemistry which kept them coming back to each other. Either way, whoever you ship, they deserved a happy ending.

7. Dylan and Brenda - Beverly Hills 90210

One of the most popular TV couples of the 90's, these two were problematic to say the least. Their on and off relationship lasted many seasons but ultimately they didn't end up together. Their undeniable connection and spark stayed the same through many of their respective relationships and when the love triangle with Kelly arised. Dylan may have had a child with Kelly and loved her at one point but nothing could beat what he had with his favourite Walsh. The writers really put them through the wringer but timing was just not their friend in the end. Although, I personally refuse to believe they didn't get back together many years later, so these star crossed lovers had a happy ending in my book.

8. Hannah & Adam - Girls

This one was mostly added for my own sake but, here it is. Lena Dunham may have said herself that these two were just not meant to be but I'm sure most fans disagree, myself included. Hannah and Adam were somewhat toxic for one another as well as other people but when they were good they were good. Both of them had had several respective relationships that ended mainly because of each of clashing personalities or just continued feelings for one another, which drew them closer. They kept being drawn back to each other, despite several failed attempts at a somewhat functional relationship. There's also the fact that she took care of him whilst he had a broken leg after they'd broken up and he offered to raise her child with her (clearly they'd do anything for each other). Also, they'd grown up, matured; she was living outside the city with her baby, settling down. Writers gave viewers false hope within the last few episodes, then separated them somewhat abruptly. These two just get each other which is clear in the diner scene when Hannah starts crying silently and Adam instantly understands. Maybe they didn't work as a couple but as friends, even soulmates, they were awesome. Another relationship that was cursed by time and good, but annoying writers.

9. Jess & Rory - Gilmore Girls

Team Jess, all the way. He may have been an asshole at first but grown up Jess would be perfect for Rory; they're at similar stages in their lives, have the same aspirations and they have the best connection out of all three guys. I loved Dean at the beginning but he became jealous and insecure once Jess arrived, which made him a douchebag (he also cheated on his wife with her). Then there's Logan and Rory, who were also problematic when they were both cheating on their significant others with one another. Jess is the only one who didn't cheat and they didn't have any real glitches in their relationship. The only reason Jess and Rory broke up in the end was because he was a bit of a commitment-phobe, but now look at him, he's grown up and responsible. These two writer's are the ones for each other, Dean is too similar to Rory and Logan is too different, Jess is a healthy middle who she sparks with the most. He challenges her and understands her; they're a perfect fit and the only point to prove otherwise is how he acted when he was younger, which is obviously irrelevant now. Team Jess for the win.

10. Evan & Casey - Atypical

Don't get me wrong, I ship Casey and Izzie as much as the next person but Casey and Evan didn't deserve to be cut off like they were. It's as simple as this: writers wanted to get Izzy and Casey together but had to make Evan the 'bad guy' to do so. Evan in the first couple of seasons is sweet, caring and supportive and that's the basis of this kind character. But, all of these positive characteristics seem to disappear behind more annoying traits in the third season- jealousy, clingy-ness and the uncomfortable third wheeling which is really not his fault. This one may be more for our boy Evan than them as a couple, and Casey may have moved on from one great person to another but the breakup of these two didn't go under my radar as they tried to pull our focus towards the two girls. Tuba-stealing Evan will definitely find another girl though, with those eyes, that messy hair, and his sense of humour *chefs kiss.*
