Naomi Campbell Said She Was Turned Away From An Event Because She's Black

"The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was full."

We all know supermodel Naomi Campbell because she's an international icon. But, as I and other black folks are well aware of, even icons experience racism.

In a recent interview about her life and career, Naomi revealed that she'd been racially profiled during a visit to the south of France this past spring.

"I was invited to participate in an event in a hotel whose name I will not mention," she told Paris Match. They did not want to let my friend and I in because of the color of my skin."

"The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was full. But he let other people pass," she continued. "It is for these kind of shocking moments that I will continue to express myself and make myself heard."

Naomi's been shutting down runways since the 80s, so this is hardly the first time she's experienced or spoken out about racism.

In fact, only a few months ago, she told BBC, "I did a campaign for someone and I was told that one of the countries in Asia won't use the picture because of the color of my skin."

Supermodel or not, racism is NOT okay. So thank you, Naomi, for continuing to shed a much needed light on discrimination, bigotry, and intolerance.
