Pete Wentz Promised Us A Solo Album If Lockdown Continued For Another Six Months

And since those six months are now up: where's the album, Pete?

It feels like 2020 has lasted about ten years in only ten months. So much has happened this year that it feels impossible that anything from the first half of 2020 even happened this year.

Also, what ever came of the murder hornets? Are they gone?

So, you may remember when Pete Wentz - aka the bassist of Fall Out Boy - collaborated with newcomers Cheap Cuts on a song called "Check Your Phone."

They followed up the release of this song with a music video on YouTube...

...and Pete even released a merch line on his own website.

But in an interview with Kerrang! on April 21, 2020, Pete Wentz suggested that if the [COVID-19] lockdown continues, "Check Your Phone" would not be a one-off!

When asked if Pete was going to write a "Pete Wentz solo album," the musician responded with what Kerrang! called a "typically Pete pop-culture-referenced-analogy."

“There’s this bit in the movie Reality Bites where Ethan Hawke’s character talks about seeing his dad after he found out he had cancer,” he says. “They’d talk about life and he gave Ethan’s character a pink seashell to help explain things. He realised the shell is empty and maybe life is pointless. ‘It’s all a random lottery of meaningless tragedy in a series of near escapes,’ he says. That’s why he enjoys the little things in life, like eating a burger or smoking a cigarette. I think there’s a whole record from that perspective, taking part in these little pieces of life without the consequence. It’s important to not forget those little granular moments of life. To me, there’s a record in that pink seashell.”

He was also quoted saying, "I have a space in my head that’s always been more of an album."

In the six months since this interview, different areas of the world and the United States alone have experienced different stages of lockdown and reopening in regard to COVID-19. Los Angeles, where Wentz currently resides, is still experiencing some stages of lockdown.

Barbara Ferrer of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stated last month that some stages of reopening - such as schools - wouldn't occur until after the presidential election in November.

It looks like your time is up, Pete — we're awaiting your Pete Wentz solo album!
