5 Must Have Products For Cold Weather Travel

Touring through snowy landscapes is close to magical, but the cold temperatures and chilly winds can leave your hair and skin in less than great condition. With a few handy products and a little preventative action, you can avoid uncomfortable dry skin, chapped lips and other painful conditions.

    Hand cream

More so than any other part of your body, your hands can be quite affected by the elements and wind, rain and sun can leave them in less than ideal condition without a little TLC. Get into the habit of applying a nourishing hand cream everyday that will condition your hands and help to keep the moisture in your skin and you’ll see some great results. As with any product, there is a wide range available, from simple formulas through to scented creams. For everyday use, you could get away with a scented formulation, but if your hands are particularly dry, opt for a simple formula instead.

    Moisturiser

A classic part of any skincare regime, a good moisturiser is an essential addition to any travel kit. Dry skin is soothed and replenished after being outside, while application before heading out into the elements help to prevent any unnecessary drying. The moisturiser you choose typically depends on your skin type, but there are many available on the market that are suitable to use on most skin types. There are plenty that are quite pricey and promise a lot of benefits, but you can also find some great products that don’t cost the earth. I like the Wild Ferns Rotorua Mud Facial Moisturiser with calendula and rosehip oil, but everyone has their own preference!

    Eye drops

Being outside in cold winds can leave your eyes feeling a little dry and uncomfortable. If this is a problem that bothers you, or you are planning to spend a decent amount of time outside, consider packing a few disposable vials of eye drops. The solution provides relief from dryness and irritation and can make exploring the place you’re visiting more comfortable. A little harder to find than most other items, a trip to the chemist will allow you to choose from a variety of brands and promised benefits.

    Lip balm

Most of the time, it’s hard to shield your lips from the elements and, as the skin on this part of your body is quite thin, it can be damaged quite quickly. A lack of moisture can leave your lips feeling chapped and sore, so it’s a good idea to look after your lips with a touch of lip balm. Lip balm adds moisture to your lips and helps to prevent any further moisture from escaping. You can find a wide variety of lip balms in stores, but a classic formula with no colour is always a good basic product to have. If you want, go for a tinted lip balm, or stick with something simple like the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Balm.

    Moisturising hair mask

Not quite as essential as other products, a moisturising hair mask is an optional treatment that will help to restore your locks to their pre-winter glory. Used on average once a week, they help to nourish hair and add any nutrients that may help to improve hair condition. There are a variety of products available, from cheap treatments through to high end formulations, so you are likely to find one to match your needs, regardless of your budget. If you’re not sure of which product or specific treatment you may need, have a chat with your hairdresser next time you’re in the salon.
