In no particular order. Some of the best performances this year. If you haven't watched a particular movie, then I suggest you skip the "Best Scene" section.
You've been probably annoyed by how everyone seems to be talking about Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born. Well, be ready to get annoyed again. Lady Gaga gave one hell of a debut in this very emotional film. The natural chemistry with Bradley Cooper, along with the fabulous songs, Lady Gaga breathed life into her character, Ally. Almost everyone who watched this cried and it wouldn't have been possible without Lady Gaga.
BEST SCENE: The last scene, after Ally's love of life dies, and she tearfully sings "I will never love again". The emotion in Gaga's face is everything.
Stop frowning and hear me out. There's a very slim chance for a horror movie to get nominated for an Oscar. But Emily Blunt deserves it for A Quiet Place. Her portrayal of a woman in a world where monsters have taken over who hunt through sounds is absolutely noteworthy. Need more proof? Watch this bathtub scene.
BEST SCENE: The bathtub scene, obvi. But also the nail scene.
Here's another horror movie again. Hereditary was dubbed as "one of the scariest film of 2018". I don't know what you guys might feel about the film, but one thing we might agree on is Toni Colette's amazing acting. Her depiction of a mother grief-stricken after the death of her (SPOILER) daughter is amazing. And the dinner table scene where she absolutely loses it is equal parts terrifying and beautiful.
BEST SCENE: The dinner table scene, the entire end sequence and that scene where she talks to her daughter.
Every list will be incomplete without Viola Davis. I mean, Viola Davis can read a magazine and make it Oscar-worthy. Her performance in Widows is full of emotions and badassery. The first scene right after her husband dies and she becomes a widow makes us cry. The scene where the bad man threatens her, Davis takes us on a journey and we get scared with her. Everything she does in this movie is absolutely amazing. She could have won a Best Actress award for her role in Fences instead of the supporting one. Anyways, I will be very happy if she wins for Widows.
BEST SCENE: "Because nobody thinks we have the balls to pull this off." Enough said.
You're probably thinking Amandla who? Let me explain, Amandla Stenberg plays Starr in The Hate You Give. Starr is a teenager who witnesses the brutal shooting of her best friend by the hands of a police officer. And that shatters her seemingly perfect life. Amandla gives a stellar performance, the movie is absolutely phenomenal. It really makes you think about the police brutality on black people and Amandla's performance stays with you days after you watch this film.
BEST SCENE: The shooting scene. It really tugs your heartstrings when she immediately puts her hand on the dashboard when a cop pulls over the car she's in. And the end scene.
