The Alcoholidays Are Upon Us

Get your calendars ready lushes, there are at least 17 more alcoholidays left this year and we don’t want you to miss a single one!

St. Patrick's Day - March 17th

Today, we toast the patron saint of Ireland with green attire and lots of booze! In case you weren’t aware, St. Patrick is the guy who brought Christianity to the Irish people and they were pretty excited about that so each year a big celebration is thrown on the anniversary of his death. Make this day an excuse to drink lots of Guinness and corned beef.

International Whiskey day - March 27

If you didn’t drink enough Jamison on St. Patrick’s day here’s your excuse to drink more! This particular date is the birthday of Michael Jackson (not that one), a famous English writer who loved writing about whiskey. Jackson passed away in 2007 from Parkinson’s, so many whiskey enthusiasts make sure to donate to charities who aim to help those with the disease.

National Beer Day - April 7th

To be honest, there are lots of beer drinking holidays. April 7th however, marks the day Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Cullen-Harrison Act, which legalized the sale of alcohol for the first time in US history. Following the signing he famously said “"I think this would be a good time for a beer.” We agree.

Kentucky Derby - May 4th

While the Derby itself is celebrated on the first Saturday in May, there is actually a 2 week long festival celebrate in Louisville prior to the actual races. So you have plenty of time to enjoy those mint juleps and burgoo before the race is run.

Cinco de Mayo - May 5th

Hopefully you’re not too hungover from the Derby parties to enjoy a margarita or 3! This day celebrates the Mexican Army's defeat over the French Empire in the Battle of Puebla. While it’s not a national holiday in Mexico, all public schools are closed and lots of people won’t have to work. This year Cinco de Mayo just so happens to fall on a Sunday, so everyone has the opportunity to partake in the festivities.

World Cocktail Day - May 13th

“A stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters…” is the perfect way to describe your favorite cocktail. And it just so happens to be the very first definition for the word. A New York tabloid coined the term “cocktail” on May 13, 1806 and that’s certainly something to raise a glass to.

National Wine day - May 25

It’s hard to find a definitive reason why May 25th was chosen to celebrate the drinking of wine, but let’s face it, we don’t really need an excuse. Wine is full of antioxidants making it pretty much a health food. Feel free to have an extra glass or 2 this year because this alcoholiday just so happens to fall on a Saturday.

Fourth of July - July 4th

If you live in the US, you know what this day is all about. The signing of the Declaration of Independence was a huge victory, so let’s celebrate the most American of ways. Beer, hot dogs, fireworks and red, white and blue everything.

National Tequila Day - July 24th

In case you missed National Margarita day earlier this year, here’s your chance for redemption. This tasty libation is made from the heart of the blue agave plant and actually gets its name from the town in Mexico where it was discovered. Not to mention, it's the most popular alcoholiday of all.

Calling all Daiquiris, Pina Colada, Mai Tais, Mojitos, Hurricanes lovers- this is your day! Best yet, this year’s Rum Day falls on a Friday, so feel free to spend the whole weekend celebrating this one.

Labor Day - September 2nd

While the rest of the world opts to celebrate their workers on the first of May, Canadian and Americans have chosen the first Monday in September to honor their working class. Make sure to fill the cooler with cold beer and fire up the grill for maximum unwind potential.

Oktoberfest - September 21 - October 6

Okay, so this one is actually a 16 day celebration, but what alcoholiday list is complete with out this celebration of German celebration of libations. Don’t feel like you have to fly out to Munich to enjoy good German beer, there are bound to be plenty of local celebrations around your hometown. But if you can get out to there, definitely do.

National Vodka Day - October 4th

Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers, Mules. Vodka is the drink of limitless possibilities and for that it deserves a day to shine! And best yet, it also happens to be National Taco Day, so there’s twice as many reasons to look forward to this Friday in October.

Put away the dress shirts and khakis, this is the day to dress up and drink up. Whether you’re trick or treating with the kids or attending a costume party, this holiday is a win-win. What’s sweeter than that?

Gobble, gobble? More like goblet, goblet. (sorry) You’re already getting your fill of delicious food, might as well add some delicious boozy beverages to menu. At the very least it might make the in-laws a bit more tolerable.

Repeal day - December 5th

With the passing of 21st Amendment, which repealed the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the prohibition of alcohol was reversed in the US. Don’t let the history lesson scare you away, December 5th is the day to raise a glass and drink to the fact that you can drink in the US.
