Do you like calling out white men and the patriarchy? Do you have a thing for all things retro, black and white, and comical? Then Barbara Kruger is your gal. An american artist, based in New York City, Kruger kicks ass and pushes the public to reconsider anything from femininity, gender roles, to abortion.

Do you like to travel and follow your heart? Do you like to challenge what's expected of you? A feminist who loved to travel, Mendieta challenged gender norms, asked what the 'body' really is, and made a distinctive mark on New York City during the 70's and 80's . She made films, the "Silueta" Series, and as seen below she often used herself as the subject of her work. She left us too soon in 1985, but her legacy is still strong!

One of the few women who was able to infiltrate the boys club of the Abstract Expressionists, Frankenthaler seems to have always been a classy New York broad. A Manhattan native, Frankenthaler made very important works like "Mountains and Sea" (1952), and though not a proclaimed feminist she and others like Grace Hartigan can be considered precursors to second wave feminism. Overall, if you like to keep things private, invent new techniques (like she did), and you love New York City then Frankenthaler is the one for you :)

Lorna Simpson focuses on race, sexuality, and gender in her pieces. As an African-American NYC native, Simpson will sometimes use herself as her subject and her work is mostly of photography and text. Simpson has also focused on hair in her work "Wigs," personal memory in her series "1959-2009," and one of her most famous pieces "Guarded Conditions" focuses on black feminism. Overall, just like Simpson, you are a champion of intersectional feminism, you love your family, and you like to challenge the norms!
