There are 47 Japanese Prefectures subdivided into eight regions: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu (including Okinawa). Each region has its share of travel destinations that are unique by virtue of geography and access to technology.
