So we knew Rory was taking after her mother...but what about Emily? Here is fundamental proof from the Gilmore Girls revival that Emily is Lorelai Gilmore 2.0.
By now, all dedicated Gilmore Girls fans have had the chance to watch Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life...
And of course, been stunned by the last four words... SPOILER ALERT
Yes, indeed. Rory is pregnant. While this has elicited fury from fans in its own right, there is no denying that Rory's pregnancy effectively brings the plot of Gilmore Girls full circle.
I mean, is the father Logan? Is he the new Christopher? Does Jess looking longingly through the window at Rory mean he still loves her? Is Jess the new Luke?
The most popular fan theories have answered all these questions with a resounding "yes!!!!" Which, given the fact that Rory is now 32 (the same age that Lorelai was in the pilot) really brings the story FULL CIRCLE. Right! Right?? Cool. But it doesn't stop there.
Not only does Rory appear to be mirroring her mother's life in the revival, but her grandmother Emily also appears to be.
Let's take a look at the facts:
1) In Gilmore Girls, we find out that Lorelai felt suffocated by the upper class environment of her family (example: the infamous D.A.R.) and left home to raise her child in Stars Hollow.
In the revival, after the passing of her husband Richard, Emily also abandons her formerly beloved D.A.R. group (how can we forget that iconic "BULLSHIT!!" scene?? -- see link below) and moves away to Nantucket.
2) When raising Rory, Lorelai gained support and solace at the Independence Inn where she was working at the time.
In the revival, Emily moves to Nantucket, and similarly attains peace as she immerses herself in the town as a museum employee!
3) In Gilmore Girls, Lorelai adopts the residents of Stars Hollow as her surrogate family.
In the revival, Emily finally settles down with a maid (what number maid is this anyway?) who happens to have a full fledged family. Emily adopts this family as her own, shown by her caring for her maid Berta when she is sick.
4) ANDDDDDD LASTLY: Lorelai, after leaving home, starts an entirely new life with in Stars Hollow without Christopher or another male partner.
In the revival, the new phase of Emily's life begins after losing her husband of 50 years.
SOOOOOOOOOO there you have it folks. Sure, Rory = Lorelai... but it seems Emily = Lorelai as well!!! It appears that even after all those years of conflict with her daughter over her independence, Emily achieves the same sort of independent lifestyle. Yay! DOUBLE FULL CIRCLE.
