Nine Shocking Facts About Fraternity Hazing

    ***for a school project***

    1. A Rolling Stone article found that Dartmouth's SAE chapter forced pledges to swim in kiddies pools full of "vomit, urine, fecal matter, semen and rotten food products."

    2. "73% of students participating in social fraternities and sororities have experienced at least one hazing behavior"

    3. One out of five students say that they are aware of hazing taking place on their campus. More that one out of five report that they witnessed hazing personally.

    4. 82% of deaths from hazing involve alcohol.

    5. In the last two months, Florida State University, Louisiana State University and Texas State University all suspended Greek life activities after each had a fraternity pledge die.

    6. Many fraternities do not abide their university's anti-hazing rules, meaning that they are more likely to hide a pledge's hazing related injury to avoid consequences (as was the case with the recent death of Penn State pledge Timothy Piazza).

    7. So basically, even though 44 states have implemented anti-hazing policies at their Universities, fraternities are still finding a way to haze pledges secretly.

    8. At USC, a reported 75% of our school's Greek system has been placed on some form of probation for hazing related incidents.

    9. USC's Interfraternity Council president from last year stated that actually enforcing anti-hazing rules with monitoring during rush week would be "overreach...the wrong way to get the outcome people want."
