Go on well known sites like match.com or ask a friend. You can also take to the internet but be aware of the risks they are not always trustworthy sites. Try and avoid websites like Tinder or other “dating sites”. If you’re looking for a serious relationship and you’re not trying to get scammed I would go for one of the generic sites which also broadens your pool of people to meet!

What is appropriate to post on your profile?

Basic information that reveals personality traits but don’t get too personal. It’s also bad to put too much information about yourself online because you could become a target for creepers online. Fill out the criteria and add a little bit about yourself in your bio so that people can get to know you a little better.

What NOT to put on your dating site profile

Strange pictures and fetishes should be avoided at all costs. Some people think those posts are funny, but most will find it creepy and skip right past your profile. Get to know someone before revealing your deepest, darkest secrets online. You also don't want to post anything about your personal life where people can reach you like your place of work or residence.

How to (and not to) initiate contact on a dating website

There are many different ways to contact people nowadays but online dating sites make it very easy. You can usually contact people via message on dating sites which is the most recommended and safe way to do it. If you get to know a person a little better, however, you can take to social media and contact them through there. If you really get to know someone exchanging numbers is alright but don't give out your number right away.

Responding to potential dates

Dating sites can lead to awkward encounters but only if you act awkwardly. When someone reaches out to you, you have the upper hand so just respond with a casual response. The person messaging you isn't looking for marriage from that one message, and if they are you might when to get out of that fast. Just say a greeting and a get to know you question. Meet people a little over message before deciding to meet with them right away. Don't come off to strong as well, because people on dating sites could be a little shier and that might scare them off. Online dating seems like a hoax but many marriages and relationships stem from online encounters. If you try it hopefully you find your match!
