Make box yellow cake mix according to the instructions (or any cake batter). Fill cupcake wrappers about halfway; you want the cupcakes to reach the top of the wrapper when baked but not too far above it. Leave some batter for later. Bake cupcakes as normal.
Pour a small amount of batter on a hot waffle iron. Dip a cupcake in batter and place face down on the batter on the waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Cover in in syrup and eat immediately.
