BuzzFeed Australia went down to Circular Quay in Sydney on New Year's Eve to find out what its visitors learned in 2017, and what their hopes and dreams are for the year ahead. Here's what they said.

"2017 was the best year so far for me! I had a great year. I finally did what I wanted to do in coming to Australia. I met new people, did different things, and didn’t think about the past, just the future. I’d like 2018 to be the same, feeling great about myself and just doing what I want. I don’t want to plan anything. I just love where I am right now, living in the moment."

"With personal, love life, and business, 2017 was all very mixed. Not a bad year all in all, I can’t complain really. But in 2018 I’d like to plank for five minutes in the gym, get a bigger bum, go to Jamaica, and push myself creatively more with work."

"I finished my studies last year so it was a good one for me! For 2018 I hope to have a good year in Australia. I only arrived two weeks ago and I'm here for a year. I also would like some more money!"

"2017 wasn’t really a good year. I quit my job and tried to find a new one, but I haven’t yet. I’m a script writer for film, and it's quite hard to find jobs. I haven’t really thought about 2018 yet, but I would like to find a good job. I want to do something I’m really proud of, write a really good movie script."

"2017 was a very good year. I quit a job that I absolutely loved to come here. Since I was little I’ve always wanted to come to Australia. So here I am and it feels very good to be here! I hope in 2018 I'll lose my fear of commitments. I hope that I can actually call my boyfriend 'my boyfriend', and that I can tell my parents about him after two years!"

"2017 was a good year because I completed some personal goals of mine. I practice Judo, and I won the European championship. In 2018 I want to continue in this way but I also want to spent more time with the people I love, and maybe try some new things."

"I am here in Australia with my friend to enjoy New Year’s Eve and visit this country. 2017 was good... I think. I did some new things in my work and I kind of liked that!
