On Sunday, August 27th, The Forum in Inglewood, California will host the 34th annual Video Music Awards, a show aimed at honoring the best of the best in the music video format.
The Video Music Awards are an iconic part of both pop culture and the music medium alike and the show is sure to be an exciting night full of big wins and surprising moments that may potentially top those that have happened in years past. Leading this year's nominees is Kendrick Lamar who leads with 8 nominations.
Important to note about this year's ceremony is that MTV continued to eliminate gender-specific awards categories, as they did at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The network announced the former "Best Female Video" and "Best Male Video" categories have been combined into "Artist of the Year."
"Best Fight Against the System" has also been added to celebrate videos that inspire viewers to stand up against injustice.
