Political distrust is nothing new—not since Nixon anyway. But if you listen to our parents' generation, you might think that their own party is doing the best they can while the other side is filled with villains and neer-do-wells.

But Millennials are a little more jaded. We've lived our whole lives watching politicians protect the corporate interests of their donors, at the expense of everyday citizens.

There might be a few shining stars in the political landscape (Bernie <3), but by and large, most Millennials have very little hope in the government.

Finding a Solid Career

My dad started his job when he was in his late twenties. My best friend's dad has been working for the same company since he got married.

On the other hand, I've worked around fifteen jobs since I graduated college.

And that's on the low side for much of my generation. Most of my friends are still juggling multiple part-time jobs or living off of their side hustles.

But it's not our fault—businesses aren't loyal to workers anymore, so why should we be loyal to them? Many of us are skipping regular jobs altogether and freelancing on our own terms. That's what I do—and it works pretty great.

Being Able to Pay for Emergencies Out of Pocket

Today, my wife and I took our car into the shop to have our air conditioning recharged. It was a $79 fix, but we're in an okay spot, so we're able to cover it.

But when they looked at it, they found that the AC's compressor system was broken. That would be a bit pricier—$1400 to be exact.

That's not a huge amount of money in the scheme of things, but it's way more than we can afford. And we're not alone. Most Americans can't cover a $1000 emergency.

We're working on building up our savings, but it's taken some time. In the meantime, we've just accepted that we're not going to be able to fix it until our college loans are paid off—in like, forty years.

Having Worthwhile Healthcare

As a kid, whenever I got sick, my parents took me to the doctor. Every time.

The last time I went to the doctor was five years ago when I got hand foot and mouth disease. I had to pay out of pocket, and I'm pretty sure that I had to ask my dad for help to cover it.

We currently pay for "oh crap" insurance. We don't have a copay—we have to pay everything until we hit our deductible. It's not a great plan, but it's the only one we can afford.

And until our country figures out what the heck is going on with our healthcare, that doesn't look like it will change. See point one.

Getting Out of Debt

Between student loans and credit cards, Millennials are in a whole heap of debt. And for many of us, we can't imagine a world where most of our income isn't going to pay off that debt.

We'd love to travel, or buy a nice house, or start having kids, but that's all on hold until we pay off this debt first.

Saving For Retirement

Between all the job hopping, overpriced insurance, emergency repairs, and debt payments, most Millennials feel like there's never enough left over to put away for a nest egg.

Retirement might be fine for our parents, but we'll never be able to do it. We'll be working at Starbucks, eating Ramen, and "treating ourselves" to McDonald's until the day we die.
