People With Schizophrenia, What Do You Wish Your Loved Ones Would Understand?

Because people's support can make all the difference.

When it comes to mental health, schizophrenia is often overlooked, poorly represented in popular media, and poorly understood by the general public.

It’s mental health awareness month, don’t forget that it’s not just depression and anxiety. It’s also PTSD, it’s schizophrenia, it’s Dissociative identity disorder, borderline personality disorder, bipolar, ocd. Support everyone. Every brain is different, just be kind. Be aware.

So, if you live with schizophrenia, what do you wish your friends and loved ones would understand?

Perhaps you'd love to emphasize that schizophrenia is not the same as having dissociative identity disorder.

Or that a schizophrenia diagnosis doesn't mean that you are violent or incapable of having a great life.

Or maybe there's a small way in which they could be supportive of you.

Whatever it is you wish your friends understood about your schizophrenia, we want to know. Share your response below and you could be featured in a future BuzzFeed Community post or video.
