    Here's An Easy Magikarp Costume Anyone Can Make

    Here's what your costume will look like when it's finished:

    You're just making the hoodie; you'll have to wear your own pants or skirt.

    1. Gather your supplies:

    You'll need:

    * A bright orange sweatshirt with a hood (we used this one from Walmart, $12).

    * One pink fat quarter (we got ours at the dollar store for $1).

    * One sheet of white felt (we got ours at Michaels for $0.39).

    * A sheet of white craft foam, a sheet of red or orange craft foam, and a sheet of yellow craft foam. We bought a bulk pack for this project, but you can also get individual sheets for $0.99 each at Michaels.

    * Yellow ribbon (we got ours at the dollar store for $1).

    * A package of small safety pins, $2.99.

    * The pattern cut-outs for Magikarp's fins (three pieces), and Magikarp's eye (one piece) on page 3 of the Pattern PDF.

    Total cost for Magikarp costume: $20.35

    We didn't include the price of these basic crafting supplies in the estimate: scissors, a pencil, and a hot glue gun with glue sticks.

    2. Make the eyes:

    Trace the eye pattern twice onto the white felt. Cut them out, then use a black Sharpie to make a dot in the middle of the cleanest side of each piece of felt. Wait to hot-glue them to the hood until you have the rest of the sweatshirt put together, though, so you make sure you get them in the right place.

    3. Make the red and white elbow fins (click/tap on the individual photos throughout this post to get a larger photo and step-by-step instructions):

    (We used red instead of orange, then painted red, because that's what we had on hand).

    4. Make the yellow headpiece:

    5. Replace the string in the hood with your yellow ribbon:

    6. Turn your fat quarter into no-sew fish lips with the help of a few safety pins:

    7. Now hot-glue the rest of it together: the fins on your elbows, the headpiece directly on top of your head, and the the eyes on either side.
