17 Moments From The "Percy Jackson" Book Series That The Films Forgot, But The TV Series Better Include

I'm a huge fan of the Percy Jackson book series, but when the films were released I couldn't help but feel disappointed.

Percy being handed a pen as a weapon is me being given the movie adaptations.

With the new TV series on the horizon, I feel compelled to point out the bits from the books the movie missed out, which NEED to be included in the show! Here are my thoughts:

1. The Oracle giving Percy his Prophecy, or giving out quests... or both!

Did anyone else find the Oracle quite daunting in the books? She sat in a dusty attic, alone, waiting for a demi-god to approach her so she could speak a prophecy, and give them a quest – terrifying. She added so much atmosphere I was beyond baffled that she only appeared once in the film. Nominating yourself for a quest just isn't the same, so the new TV series has to bring Delphi back!

2. The character's backgrounds, and scenes showing us their lives before coming to camp half-blood.

In the books, we learned so much about the characters' lives, how they met, and things they have experienced before Percy came along. We deserve to know how Annabeth, Thalia, and Luke got to the camp! Some of the storylines are also crucial to the main plot (like Luke's relationship with his mother), so some background storylines will do the TV show some good.

3. The children's pact of the big three, and why it's so significant to their lives.

Posideon, Zeus, and Hades swore on the River Styx to never have demigod children because they were too powerful. I never did understand the reason behind the pact, but I do know it was the sole reason there was the mysterious prophecy. If this aspect of the story isn't included, then there isn't much point in having a Percy Jackson series. May as well call it The Demigods and be done with it. 

4. I want to see the Three Fates have their own season, let alone a storyline.

The Three Fates assign destinies to mortals, and though they don't really get their own storyline, or even play a huge part in the films, they are mentioned a few times in the books. I can really see them being an important role in the TV series. Imagine them popping up while they bring a new demigod to camp? Or when everyone is back at school trying to learn maths equations?! That's the kind of chaotic energy I'm here for.

5. I'd also like to see storylines around the demigods not being able to cross over to other gods' domains.

I always found it interesting that Percy couldn't fly too high up because of Zeus, and no one could interact with the water like Percy could, because they're not a child of the sea god. Though it's a small detail, it's an important one and something I know the new series could benefit from. 

6. Grover's search for Pan, and his journey to save the natural world.

The search for Pan is such a huge part of the franchise I was surprised it never came up in the movies. In fact, Grover isn't even working towards a searcher license in the film, which to me, is just wrong. I really hope Grover is given more of a purpose in the show.

7. Mr. D's character development and his secret loyalty towards the campers.

20th Century Fox

Mr. D isn't in the first movie. Excuse me? His role in camp is not only an important one, but his relationship with the camp members is comical. He's bitter about his punishment from Zeus, he's uninterested in the lives of the demigods, and yet he secretly protects them whenever he can. Can we please see more of him?

8. I want to see more dream communication and visions while the campers sleep.

Though it's briefly mentioned in the films that the gods guide their children throughout their life, they don't really do much communicating. In all of the novels, the demigods are shown visuals in their dreams, and considering they're usually about the safety of their friends, they're usually useful. This would be such a good addition to the series, especially if, like me, your knowledge of mythology is lacking.

9. Blackjack being saved from The Princess Andromeda and him becoming Percy's right hand horse.

20th Century Fox

Blackjack is Percy's sidekick right until the end, and saves his life too many times to count. Blackjack isn't in the movies at all, and Percy's time on The Princess Andromeda is made up of a water fight with Luke and a quick getaway on a lifeboat. This character (if you can call a pegasus that) is ~so~ necessary, and who doesn't want to watch a jet black flying horse fight monsters?

10. A detailed storyline on the recreation of Kronos.

20th Century Fox

It takes four whole books for Kronos to be reassembled, and this is done by monsters, and demigods pledging their allegiance to him — which makes sense. In the second film, the golden fleece brings him back to life before being destroyed...again. Something about the simplicity of the movie adaptation doesn't do anything for me, and I know we all hate a long, drawn-out storyline, but come on! The series has a chance of really playing around with this storyline!

11. I want to see Artemis and her group of huntresses make an appearance.

Book three would not be book three without Artemis and her boy-hating huntresses. More importantly, Thalia joins them at the end of the book, and becomes immortal so that camp half-blood has an extra two years to work out the prophecy. She's on-screen for less than a few minutes in the movie as though she isn't a major role! Tell me the TV series doesn't need this plot in order to be great?!

12. Bianca and Nico storylines.

Surely we can agree that we need Bianca and Nico in this series. They're the daughter and son of Hades, and were hidden because of the pact he made with his brothers. They play such a huge part in moving the narrative along, and honestly, I think we need a semi-evil demigod in the mix! Think of the storylines you could create with two worlds colliding, good and evil, right and wrong... Sounds interesting to me. 

13. Tyson working for Posideon under the ocean, or some underwater action at the very least.

I think it would be so cool to see the world Posideon created under the water. No doubt we will get a look at Olympus, but the workshop Tyson goes to at the end of the third book sounds like a nice change. We could get introduced to the sea creatures and monsters that make this series mythical and amazing.

14. The Ogygia Island and Calypso scene.

This was only a short moment in the novel, but it was so character building for Percy. He's given the chance to see what peace looks like in the middle of a war between gods and titans. Calypso gives him the chance to stay and if it wasn't for his heroism, he might have! Don't you want to know what Elysium looks like? They could do so much with the visuals, and without it, there's a chance Percy wouldn't realise he loves Annabeth.

15. Kronos taking over Luke's body before becoming his true form.

Kronos needs a host body while he gains strength, and he chooses Luke. I wanted to say that this doesn't change the plot of Percy Jackson BUT this is kind of what the prophecy is all about, and without the prophecy, there are no books. If the demigods don't try and overthrow him, then what else will they do? 

The movies never made it this far, which means the writers will be able to do whatever they want with this storyline, and really sell it to the viewers. No pressure.

16. The romantic relationships between the demigods.

I know it's a fantasy story, and the main focal point is Greek mythology, but who doesn't love a good romance? We were all rooting for Percy and Annabeth from book one, but let's not forget Grover and Juniper together, or Clarrise and Chris. Though short-lived, even Silena and Charles were adorable... (until their demise, but we can forget that heartbreaking moment). 

17. And last, but by no means least, the mist! It wouldn't be a Percy Jackson series without it.

Now, this might seem like an insignificant detail, and considering the movies didn't include it, it might be considered unimportant, but no. The final battle would never have worked if there was no mist. In the movies, it comes in the form of a spray that Annabeth just so happens to have, but the books portray it so much better. 

The oracle gets appointed because someone can see through the mist, Titans can walk through Manhattan undetected, and demigods get attacked in museums and people are none the wiser. I think I've made my point.
