This week I decided to venture uptown to check out a pizza place that everyone seems to be talking about.

Zablong Peculiar Pizza, located in Uptown Charlotte's french quarter, is a funky hole-in-the-wall pizza place with a lot to offer. It is a create-your-own style restaurant that allows you to choose exactly what goes on your pizza. I had first heard about Zablong from a friend who claimed it was the best pizza in Charlotte. After seeing numerous pictures on Instagram as well, I decided to check it out for myself.

I was lucky enough to visit Zablong on a sunny Friday afternoon; the large french doors to the restaurant had been propped open and the line to order a pizza was pouring out of the small establishment.

Being the health conscious student that I am, I was worried about the options Zablong would have for people like me, but once I saw their kitchen my worries quickly turned to excitement.

While Zablong does have options to please the average pizza lover, I was more impressed by their vegitarian and vegan options. Customers have the option of three different kinds of crust: traditional, wheat, or gluten-free. They have nine different sauces, three different kinds of cheese(including dairy-free mozzarella), and an abundance of fresh vegetable toppings.

I went with a gluten-free pizza crust, angry tomato sauce, Daiya(dairy-free) mozzarella, spinach, broccoli, grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil.

I have to say, Zablong truly impressed me. This combination was delicious and didn't have me feeling guilty after eating it. The crust was thin, crispy, and piled high with delicious toppings. At about $11, it didn't break the bank either.
