Is traveling over Christmas break a good idea for your family?

Christmas break is supposed to be one of the best times of the year.

Everybody gets excited for the end of the year holiday celebrations, even the grinch. However, one of the most stressful parts about Christmas time, is coming up with plans that make everybody happy. Should you head down south and avoid the cold weather, or should you pack up the car and head over to Grandma's house to spend time with your family? These are the tough decisions that can turn one of the best times of the year into a stressful one.

Do you believe in Santa?

If you have a younger family that still gets great joy from Santa climbing down the chimney, then stay put! Get the Santa tracker rolling, get the milk and cookies laid out, and let the kids enjoy one of the most exciting times of the year while they still can. I truly don't remember a more exciting time in my life than when it was the night before Christmas as a kid. Staying up late and playing games with all of my cousins was so much more fun on Christmas Eve than any other day of the year. You could just feel it in the air. There is no need to travel to a resort or warmer weather when you have kids in the house that still believe in Santa. How would Santa even know where to bring their presents if you were out of town??

Too cool for school?

At some point, an older sibling or cousin will eventually ruin the magic of Santa for everybody. That doesn't take all of the fun away right away however. I still remember having a lot of fun with my extended family during Christmas celebrations for many years after I knew Santa wasn't real. However, at some point the magic fades a little bit and it can be a good idea to switch things up. Going to Grandma's house every year for 20 years straight gets a little repetitive. This is when you have a great opportunity to have a Christmas vacation! I couldn't tell you what happened 2 or 3 Christmases ago. But if I was in Florida for one of them I could tell you all about what happened! Switching things up for the first time can be scary, but it would be well worth it for three reasons! 1. Guaranteed family time. 2. Unforgettable memories. 3. A relaxing break from the harsh winter.
