I Tried To Get Instagram Famous In 7 Days

I decided on November 28th that I would dig through and do a lot of research on how people got Instagram famous. Of course, I already have 2332 followers, so it may seem pointless, but I average around 40-60 likes a photo depending on what it is, while other people with around the same amount of followers get anywhere from 90-200 likes a photo. I debated "why" for a while, but I realized that I had nearly 5,000 friends on Facebook a year ago and I just followed all of them and got some back. I recently unfollowed people who I didn't want to see, which actually brought down my follower number. I assume the Instagram algorithms are messy, or people just don't like my posts, I'm not sure. But this week, we will test this out!

(Day 1, Pt 3) Let's try the product shot...

This is the typical product shot. Cute background, cute showcase of the items or products, and great lighting. My problems: I don't have much of a cute background but I do have a pink, furry bathroom carpet that I haven't used yet. It might come in handy.

(Day 1, Pt 4) The making of my first product shot...

I grabbed my nice little bathroom rug and threw it over my computer. See that black square in the top right with the blue lights? That's my LED light, it's perfect for shots like this I'm sure, but we will see. I have an LG G5 and I have some sort of huge problem with the camera, so the normal camera (there's two) doesn't focus and the second camera (the fisheye) has the worst quality I have ever used. Let's try to edit the photo I took into something Instagram worthy...

I already have some tags for each day listed in my little note app on my Android, so I was going to keep using them but I decided to add and change just a few to meet the idea of the photo. Of course, I'm going to keep my regular QOTD (question of the day) to help interaction a bit.

(Day 1, Pt 6) First conclusion.

So, I already have respect for people who actually take the time to create product shots because I know they probably make it a hell of a lot more complex than I did. Props. I currently have 2330 followers, let's see if this changes at all throughout the week...I literally lost 2 followers since I started writing the draft on this. So we'll see, I guess. #GridGoals

One of the classics. However, I don't leave the house, ever. And I don't have any fancy bottles. Or any green drinks. But, I got a photo of a Styrofoam coffee cup in front of my back porch window. That counts, right?

Probably not my proudest moment, but I tried. This is where gold stickers are useful, but for adults of course. I'm back up at 2332 followers, and I seem to be stuck here 100%. But hey, I tried...Right? So far, the experiment hasn't done anything as far as reach. The photo yesterday reached a grand total of 38 likes, and it had a reach of 181 people. I'm beginning to think that people just don't give a sh*t about my posts, not that that's bad, but you know social media..Social. I am totally not sad right now.

Every time I see these photos, it's inspiring as hell and I head to the kitchen because I want to photograph my own food like the other popular Instagrammers but then I remember my camera sucks. So, with that being said I threw something together anyways. And I had to wing it and take a cardboard box with my furry bathroom rug and set food items on it. And I hated every minute of it, I'm still wondering how people take the actual time out of their day to do photos like this all the time. Also, now I'm at 2327 followers??? What the F*CK??????

Okay so the photo isn't too bad but now my tea is cold and my bread is soggy. And I'm literally losing followers, which makes me think that trying gets you nowhere on this site. Makes you wonder how the hell these other people are racking in thousands by the day with the same types of photos???? I actually feel defeated and I feel like this experiment will land me nowhere. But, hey, entertainment for everyone else, and at least I tried. Right?

Today's update isn't going to be as long since I'm really busy today, but I managed to take about 50 photos with two of my favorite face masks on, and then I threw it into Photoshop and edited it to how I really wanted it to look and I think it came out alright. Not to mention, my total followers magically went down to a whopping 2324! Not sure what's going on here. Are they catching onto the experiment? Is it a conspiracy? Who knows. But,

I was supposed to post this yesterday but ended up really busy. Oops. Lazy day, I decided it was best just to post a quote today because I have nothing else to post and I'm way too tired to come up with something more creative. Thanks, Tumblr for the self care quote! Also I'm at 2323 followers. Nice.

(Day 6, Pt 1) Home.

Ended up being out all day today and totally almost missed doing my post today. Whoops. I didn't have time to take any photos, so I decided to do a throwback type photo since I moved away from home in 2016, and I haven't seen snow in almost two years now. Also, I'm resting at a cool follower count of 2323.

Final conclusion.

I missed a few days and all that jazz, but I finished the entire challenge! I started off with 2332 followers, and I ended the challenge with 2327. I lost quite a bit of followers unfortunately, but I learned that actually trying to be Instagram famous doesn't work. It just happens. You can try all you want, but it's up to other people if they actually like what you post. I figure that pages with a theme might gain more than ones like mine, where it's just everything at once. Unfortunately, I didn't become Instagram famous through this, but I wrote a pretty good article and I came up with posts for Instagram, something I have issues doing usually. But, I tried!
