I walk a lot… Living in a big city everyone does. I knew it was bad before I moved, I would get cat calls walking around my block or something back home. But in the city it has increased exponentially. I walk to walgreens (about 3 blocks) and get at least 3 cat calls on my way there and back. Within my first couple of months in the city, I had been grabbed (back of the arm, when I wouldn’t tell my name), yelled every name in the book, and felt generally uncomfortable in every adventure out. I have resorted to giving a fake name just so people will leave me alone. Today I watched a girl on the train get harrassed even after telling the guy she was married, he replied ‘I’m married too, but we all need a little somethin-somethin on the side’. I just don’t understand. Sure, there are plenty of decent guys out there, and I have met them, but what sticks out in every girls mind are those who are not so nice. This rant kind of went nowhere, but I just felt like contributing.

Response to The 21 Struggles Of Having An Impossible Name:
My name is Alaina. I always have to tell people how to pronounce it. I constantly get called Elaine, Elena, people just want my name to start with an E. I’ve also gotten Alianna. It’s always just slightly off, but enough to annoy me.
My best friend and I always had fun on days with substitutes, her name is Ayla, yet no one knew how to pronounce it. Once, they even added several extra letters to get Alliyah.

Response to George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty:
It’s shitty that he got off on it. The state simply didn’t have the evidence to convict based on the law. Of course people are going to be upset. Of course this is complete injustice for the Martin family. But now a new can of worms has been opened up in the state of Florida, what more clearly defines murder, manslaughter (obviously the jury had issues with the terminology), stand your ground? So Zimmerman won’t be spending a day in jail, but he also will probably never get to show his face in public again (basically house arrest). And maybe the gov’t in Florida (and other states) will go over their laws again and prevent this injustice from happening in the future.
