It is more meaningful to me when… 

You feel important and valued by your coauthors when they perform acts of service for you. These could be small things, like prepping a cover letter for an article submission or cleaning up citations. Each takes time and effort and when your coauthors do these things - unprompted - you feel like your coauthor is thinking about you.

Acts of Service

For those of us that thrive from words of affirmation, your coauthor calling you a badass, complimenting your writing or analysis skills, or talking you up in front of others are all important. Similarly negative talk, criticism (even when aimed at the joint product you've produced together), or insults can be particularly harmful for you. Communicate this (as much as is possible) to your coauthor. And treat your coauthor similarly!

We are all really busy! Like, really really busy. For you, you really feel the coauthor affection when they give you their undivided attention. From promptly answering your emails to blocking off time for your projects to checking in on you, you really love it when your coauthors dedicate quality time to you and your projects.

Guess what? There's some nasty sh*t in academia! Your preferred coauthor is someone who is willing to take the lumps for you. From being the first to go through a rejection and parse the reviews into meaningful feedback to giving presentations to tough audiences, you feel valued when your coauthors will shield you from this garbage.

Shielding

To people with this coauthor-love language, nothing is more impactful than someone they work with investing in the future of their relationship. If we want to work on projects together, we have to plan long term. You feel valued when your coauthor engages in tangible steps that indicate they want a future relationship with you!
