The Baron de Montesquieu, or Monty as his friends probably never called him, was a man of letters and loved himself everything British - well, at least their government. Monty wanted governments divided so one person couldn't get become crazy with power. When making plans, you probably take forever - while someone has veto power, if can get overturned with a 3/5th majority vote. This is why you probably stay home watching Netflix.

'Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains.' Rousseau believed that society corrupted the pure and that all titles of nobility had to go. He believed society should be guided by the 'common will', which of course landed the French in an often mob-ruled revolution. You probably hate chain restaurants and watching movies at the megaplex preferring to have 'authentic experiences'.

According to Hobbes, when he was born, 'my mother gave birth to twins - myself and fear.' This fearful absolute monarch-loving philosopher seems like the he'd be worst greeting card writer ever in history. You probably always break at a yellow light and would never dare miss curfew. And...wait...did you do your homework yet? Why are you wasting your time on this quiz!?!

With the belief that people are rational beings who can rule themselves and look after the welfare of society, Locke believed if the government does not protect people's life, liberty and property, that the people can overthrow the government. He is the poster boy for many revolutions. Maybe you are a trendsetter who doesn't accept the status quo - when you order a Pepsi and instead get a coke, I bet you walk out or opt for a water. No, coke is not ok. We had an agreement. And you broke it.

John Locke

Earning merely a marginal entry in many textbooks, Mary Wollstonecraft is an often unsung hero of the Enlightenment and one of the first feminists. She had the radical notion in equality of education and that women should enter male-dominated fields. While history largely shunned her for being a single mother, her reputation is starting to rebound. If someone tells you that you can't do something, tell them to shut up and do it anyway.
