5 Thing You Need To Know About The New Unicorn Frappucino

One of these things = 3 Snickers bars?? Good thing I like Snickers

I generally try to avoid certain trends (watching the same show that everyone else is watching on Netflix, eating healthy, and listening to that song on the radio that was probably played 4 times within the last 2 hours), but when it comes to Starbucks, I'm in way too deep.

It was another lethargic day in my noticeably long three-hour morning class, gray skies, and I woke up too late to grab my routine morning coffee. Great. In short, I was pretty miserable accompanied by uncontrollable yawning.

Craving a sugary boost, I was determined to get Starbucks right after class before the start of my next one. I was scrolling through my phone (what else is new) and saw advertisements for the new, based-on-a-fairy-tale Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino. With an ethereal aesthetic and eye-catching colors, this drink is quite tempting and hard to resist even questioning the likes of its enchanted tastes. It had been a full 24 hours since its release, and, as an avid Frappuccino buyer and lover of all things unicorns, I had to show my loyal patronage by giving the drink a test (I was also really curious and none of my friends were brave enough to give it a try with me, so... I was on my own!).

Just What Exactly Makes this Drink a UNICORN Frappuccino?

Like all fraps, milk and ice are key components, but this drink is a tad unorthodox in terms of flavors. Before any blending happens, the cup is patterned with Blue Drizzle (essentially white chocolate mocha sauce). Don't let this intensely appealing hue fool you; this is what gives the frap its lip-puckering reputation once mixed in with the rest of the ingredients. In the blender, the build of the unicorn is constructed from Créme Frappuccino Syrup (pretty much a sugar-base), milk, ice, mango syrup, and pink powder that allows the drink to relatively change colors from a darker-pink-almost-purple to a more familiar light-pink color. To make the experience even more magical, a whipped-cream horn tops off the drink with complimentary pink and blue powders.

After class, I hopped onto the Starbucks app to place a mobile order just in case lines were too long and the drink would sell out

As if I couldn't get any more basic, I decided to Snapchat story the entire experience.

    And snag pics I did...

    ... Too many pics...

I snapped myself too many times that I'm actually embarrassed...

Now, here's what you need to know

    1. The Taste

    2. This a CRÉME based Frappuccino, NOT coffee-based

If you prefer coffee-based fraps like classic caramel and java chip, this drink may not be for you. The Unicorn Frap, like other créme based fraps, does not come with the Frap Roast blended in and is estimated to have 0mg of caffeine.

    3. Want to turn heads? Just buy one of these things. You don't even have to like it!

    4. No, the calories and sugar posts about the drink aren't mythical

A typical grande cup (the size I got) has 410 Calories and 59 grams of sugar. A tall (the smallest size) has 280 Calories... equivalent to the amount of sugar in a can of Coca-Cola.

    5. They don't really make the best re-gift option...
