People Are Calling Out The Colorism In Perfect Match

Perfect Match debuted on Netflix on Valentine's Day this year and it is ironically literally the least romantic reality show I've ever seen (and that's saying something because I love Flavor of Love).

Perfect Match debuted on Netflix on Valentine's Day this year and it is ironically literally the least romantic reality show I've ever seen (and that's saying something because I love Flavor of Love).

Netflix dating shows have been criticized in the past for being anti-Black, and Perfect Match is no exception.

Me: These reality tv dating shows can’t possibly find new ways to be more anti-black #PerfectMatch:

Viewers quickly started noticing a pattern...all of the women of color (especially the Black women) were matched at the end by default (meaning they were the last picked during the mingling session like in a game of dodgeball) and then eventually tossed aside in exchange for a white woman. Literally the first four women to go home were women of color.

@realiteawh0re How about the two mixed guys using the Black women to stay another day so they could seduce a white woman… Chase and Bartise… smh.

Another gross example of blatant colorism was that every time a white couple gained control of the boardroom, she was automatically paired with a Black man and fans had a lot to say about that as well.

Chloe and Mitchell choosing Bartise for diamond over Calvin and Zay is colorism lol #PerfectMatch

To make matters worse, Colony from Selling Tampa was brought into the show in episode six and was automatically labeled the "strong Black woman" because she's one of the only people on this damn show with a real job.

Those muscles ain’t gonna pay the bills 😂😂😂😂😂 I love Colony #PerfectMatch

Is she a strong Black woman? Yes, of course! But this only furthers the centuries old stereotype that anyone can do any old thing to Black women and they should be able to take it. Dom probably referred to Colony as a "strong Black woman" at least five times within five minutes.

Dom made fun of black women by calling them “Strong Black Women” & I’ll never forgive him or chase for that. Bartiste included; They were textbook colorist black men. #PerfectMatch #perfectmatchnetflix #colorism

Dom is a fan favorite and was probably the least insufferable man on the show, and even he showed very little respect to the Black women on the show.

Dom turned down all the Black women for a white woman just to get turned down by the white woman for a white man #PerfectMatch

Truth is...none of those men deserved Colony...

Perfect Match really did black women dirty. I don’t blame Colony for coming in, looking around, & getting the hell on. #PerfectMatch #perfectmatchnetflix

dom has these great things to say about colony being a “strong BW” while he’s fixated on another WW..& it’s reminding me of chase talking about how beautiful anne-sophie’s “soul” is while plotting on a WW..say somethin nice to the BW to detract from the colorism 🙃 #perfectmatch

    Or...Anne Sophie...or Diamond...or Izzy...or Savannah.

These women deserved so much better. Glad to see these BIPOC women shine together. #PerfectMatch #PerfectMatchNetflix

Maybe one day Netflix will create a show where women of color are treated the way they deserve.
