In a YouTube video posted by Vogue recently, AOC outlined her morning skincare and beauty routine — and talked about the larger reasons she's sharing it all in the first place.
"I get questions all the time on my Instagram stories about my skincare routine and makeup,” AOC says in the video. “And the reason why I think it’s so important to share these things is [that] femininity has power."
"There’s this really false idea that if you care about makeup or beauty or fashion, that’s somehow frivolous," she goes on. "But I actually think these are some of the most substantive decisions that we make — and we make them every morning."
On to her skincare routine: AOC starts with Estée Lauder toner, vitamin C serum, and Acure moisturizer.
She also emphasizes the importance of sunscreen — especially ones that don't leave a white cast — and being super generous when applying it.
Then on to makeup: AOC says she’ll alternate between two different foundations depending on whether she expects a photo-heavy day or not.
She follows up with color corrector, concealer, and a Fenty Beauty contour stick.
Next is eyes: light brow pencil, eyeshadow from Tarte's flirt palette (with glitter, if she's feeling it!), and mascara.
Worth noting? AOC also perfectly freehands winged liner all while unpacking gender inequality and explaining the Pink Tax.
Last but not least: her signature red lip. She says the main thing she wants is something "indestructible" that'll last all day.
AOC also talks about the origins of her red lip. She started wearing it while she was running for her House seat and talking to new people every day — and it stuck.
AOC wraps up by kissing her pup to prove the red lip won't budge — then offers one last piece of advice: "The key to beauty," she says, "is feeling beautiful. And no amount of money or makeup can really compensate for really loving yourself."
