Just like any medication or procedure, there’s no shortage of misinformation about abortion out there -- so you might not know that early-induced abortion is one of the safest medical procedures available today. In fact, over 99% of early abortions are completed without serious complications. To shed some light on how safe legal abortion really is, we compiled a list of ten regular things that are more risky than abortion -- many of which you’ve likely already experienced or will experience at some point.

1. Having your tonsils out.

Believe it: A tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgeries practiced in the U.S -- and one often performed on young children. Even so, getting your tonsils removed is over 1,200% riskier than having an abortion. More info.

Penicillin has been the healthcare world’s antibiotic of choice to treat infections, like strep throat and earaches, for almost 90 years. To sum it up, abortion is usually made to sound a lot scarier and more dangerous than it really is. The fact is, nearly everything we do in our lives is associated with some amount of risk, no matter how small.
