You are old fashioned, kind of creepy, and love to send shivers down the spine of those encounter you! You were the one who always showed up to slumber parties even when the host was too scared to invite you, and are often described by parents as "the stuff of nightmares." You were the #1 most frequently banned/challenged book from 1990-1999, and one of the most frequently banned/challenged books of all time. In Green Lake, you were challenged in 2017 and relocated to a different section of the library to discourage being checked out by younger readers.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz

You're always able to find something to laugh at, even when faced with dire circumstances. You are foul mouthed, kind of dorky, but able to make those that encounter you literally laugh out loud. Challenged for age-appropriateness in 2017, you are currently rated 15+ in Green Lake School library due to your hilarious use of foul language.

Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

You are a mystery. Full of surprises, no one knows what to expect because you constantly twist and turn. Although you are not actually a banned book anywhere else in the world, you are the only known book in Green Lake history to have gone through the official banning process. You were reviewed by members of the community, the clergy and law enforcement, but you won your case against being banned. You were allowed to stay on the shelves as long as you sported a "warning" sticker, but mysteriously disappeared from the library without a trace shortly after. Where have you gone.....and why?

Cold Fire by Dean Koontz

You aren't afraid to state the facts, even if they make others uncomfortable. Everything about you is honest and you make no attempt to protect others from the truth. Challenged for your "inappropriate illustrations," all copies of you were removed from the shelves of Green Lake library and hidden for years in the Guidance Office. You were unearthed in 2017 and restored to the shelves so that you can preach your truth to inquiring minds.

The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls

(Almost) Everyone loves you, young and old alike! You inspire excitement and happiness in even the most reluctant individuals, and are extremely popular. Lucky you! While you are not banned in Green Lake, you have been the #1 most banned book in America since 2000! Accused of promoting witchcraft and undermining religion, you have been removed from schools, barred from libraries, and even burned in public!

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

You are fabulously flatulent and not afraid to flaunt your farts. You eat your beans and Fiber One bars without fear of ridicule: it's a natural reaction! And besides....its hilarious. Adults just don't understand you. You were challenged at an elementary school in Wisconsin for using the words "fart" or "farting" over 24 times in a single picture book. Green Lake does not currently own a single copy of any of the books in your series. That stinks!
